Kurt’s Blog: Embrace Your Self…ie.

The stance must be taken…embrace your self….ie. Embrace that selfie. I love the selfie. I know some folks despise it, but I can’t figure out why…it’s a perfect way to capture a moment that you want to be included in…plus, you don’t have to pester people to take your photo. Trust me…I went to Disney World by myself one time…I had to ask everyone to take a picture of me. It was terrible.

I mean who else will take this pic? Excuse me miss…would you mind taking my picture…yes, it looks like I have a horribly contagious disease, and my infested fingers have ¬†been all over my Iphone for the past 10 minutes…but here, you hold it. It doesn’t work.

My son & I went to Yo Gabba Gabba Live…I wanted to get a pic of both of us with Brobee. The selfie was the way. Note: we did this to Biz Markie as well…he was thrilled (sarcasm)

My grandpa & dad were in town…needed a picture of the three of us. Trying to instruct my mom how to take a picture with my phone would have been impossible. Selfie was needed.

Pre-digital….with disposable cameras….I was a selfie king. I spent years trying to perfect it.

My daughter is just like me…she likes seeing her face on camera….so when I flip the view of the phone…I get instant smiles…and I get awesome selfies with my daughter.

To me, the selfie is an art form. It’s all about where to look. I tried taking a selfie with one my buddies over the weekend…he had no idea where to look…it was terrible.

I do have rules when I take my selfies though…

1 – Always head-on. I don’t want it the phone to be looking up my nostrils….and I don’t want to do the “model” selfie, where the you hold your phone over your head and look up at it. Look dead on into it…oh, and be sure you’re looking at the screen.

2 – If you’re sharing a selfie with someone else in the photo…make sure you get all of them as well. Do not be a selfish selfie-taker.

3. If you’re somewhere fun…be sure to get more of the atmosphere than your actual self in the photo. You want to be part of the photo…not be the photo. If you’re at say the Iowa State Fair in front of the Big Boar…don’t give me 90% of your head and only 10% of the boar. It should actually be the other way around. The Boar is the star in this instance.

4. When you take a selfie…don’t take just one…take 3-4. Just click rapidly…you can always go back to delete the unused ones. Having a choice/variety is good.

5. Be happy…sad selfies are unneeded. Even in my photo with the mask above…I’m smiling. I don’t know why….I was on death’s door at the time.

Embrace Your Selfie!

AWESOME is as AWESOME does!

WATCH: 10 best ‘Simpsons’ episodes

In this photo released by Fox, Homer explains why he wants to bring back the annual 4th of July fireworks display, after it's cancelled for budget reasons, in the "Yellow Badge of Cowardge" Season Finale episode of "The Simpsons," in May 2014. The full 25-year run of "The Simpsons" will arrive on cable channel FXX with a summer marathon, to be paired this fall with a digital extravaganza that could turn other TV shows yellow with envy. "I'm not going to over-promise, but I think this website will provide you with affordable health care," longtime "Simpsons" executive producer Al Jean told a TV critics' meeting Monday, July 21, 2014.

The recent marathon of all 552 episodes of "The Simpsons" inspired us to sit down and come up with our 10 favorite episodes. Enjoy!
