Kurt’s Blog: Good-Bye Trusted Friend
Kurt’s Blog: Good-Bye Trusted Friend

This morning, we kick off the contest “Bon Jovi’s Behind the Jeans”…and over the weekend, I went behind my jeans…and said good bye to a trusted, much-loved friend.

My favorite pair of jeans.

It was time to say adios. The rip on the right knee, which began about 18 months ago…and for a year, looked incredibly cool (an actual rip created by wear…not by actual ripping, snap)…but lately, the hole kept getting snagged on things, and ripping even further. It was devastating.

These Mavi Jeans had been with me for 5 years. They were bought for me by my wife, and they were my go-to jeans for the past half decade.

If you ever met me at station appearance and I was wearing jeans…there was a 90% chance that I was wearing these jeans.

Every concert in the past 5 years…if I was wearing jeans…I was wearing these.

Probably close to 200 drinks have been spilled on these jeans while at bars.

15 attempts at doing the splits while wearing these jeans.

Every Hawkeye football game…every, heck, every sporting event I wore long pants to…these were the jeans that were called upon.

100% of making my butt look good every time.

Anytime I had to wear “nice” pants”…these were my pants.

Driven well over 20,000 miles in these jeans.

These were the types of jeans that I could wear 10 times before having to wash once (Note: It was usually after 3 washings…but I know I pushed it to 10 a few times).

Stains were impervious to these jeans…no matter how hard I tried, they would always bounce back.

I will miss my trusted friend. If I traveled…anywhere…this was always the first clothing item to be packed. I knew I would need them.

Somewhere, Randy Newman is singing the song from “Toy Story” right now. “You’ve Got a Friend in Me”…good-bye my favorite pair of jeans. You will forever be remembered….and try as I might, there will be no replacement for you.

Justin Timberlake on Saturday Night Live

It was good…but not as good as I had hoped it would be.

I thought the two funniest sketches were the ones without JT…Stefon (of course)…and then this parody for Nuva Bling

There were other highlights…such as the “It’s a Date”…but that was made more by the fact that Dan Akroyd & Steve Martin  brought back their “Wild & Crazy Guys” routine, which was a nice throwback.

For all the star power of the opening monologue…there wasn’t really anything funny about it. They did this with Tom Hanks when he joined the “5 Timers Club” many years ago, and it was original…it was unexpected. They had all those comedy legends…but where was the funny? Candace Bergen…reduced to doing a “putting the toilet seat down” joke? Ugh…that’s insulting.

The Caligula sketch was a snoozefest…as was the Maine Justice one.

That being said…both performances from JT were outstanding.

There were moments, but with all the hype surrounding JT…this was easily far & away the weakest of JT’s 5 SNL appearances.

Good Movie News

The “Arrested Development” movie really appears to be happening!

Harrison Ford set to star in Anchroman 2!

Jim Carrey is going to do a Dumb & Dumber sequel!

All very good news!

Bachelor Finale Tonight!

Amazingly, I have no idea who wins. For the first time ever, I haven’t seen the official spoiler yet…I don’t know why…and don’t know how I’ve missed this. Perhaps because my interest in his choice is minimal tonight?

I’ll go Catherine…and prediction…this one will work out. I don’t know why…I just have a feeling this one will. I kid, I kid…it won’t, we all know this.

AWESOME is as AWESOME does!
