Big Ken and Colleen

Kurt’s Blog: I Was Almost As Manly As Big Ken….

By the way, I love the painting above. There’s a website that sells all sorts of “family portraits” from movies & tv shows. The Griswald Family one is also excellent, but there’s no limit to my Back to the Future love. Wait? It’s $75? I guess there is a limit…it’s $75

I was Almost as Manly as Big Ken

Big Ken is a Bourbon man…a Makers Mark man. I can’t handle bourbon at all. I’ve been arrested once…it was due to bourbon. I won (but really ended up losing) a drinking contest in college…it was bourbon. I did the 10 shots…won the contest…but then spent the next 24 hours throwing up.

When we do a morning show outing or something like that, and there’s booze involved…Ken will order a Makers…I order something much less manly, perhaps a vodka lemondae, or a Red Bull & vodka, or just a rum & coke.

Just recently, Makers Mark announced that they were going to cut some of the alochol content to make it easier, apparently, for wusses like me to handle. Finally, I can drink with Ken. Awesome.

Then, less than a week later, they announce they’ve reconsidered, and aren’t going to lower the content. Well, there goes that. Sorry Ken, you’re going to have to drink alone. (Note: between drinking alone or drinking with me, I’m sure Ken would choose drinking alone, ha ha).

A-Z Movies

Saw this idea, liked it…but going from A-Z…list your favorite movies. Here are mine…you will find only a few Oscar winners, but a lot of terrible, but hilarious, comedies. Try doing yours as well in the comments section below! I know I missed some good ones.

A – Anchorman

B – Back to the Future

C – Caddyshack

D -Donnie Brasco

E – Eurotrip

F – Fletch

G -Gladiator

H – The Hangover

I -Idiocracy

J -Jurassic Park

K – Karate Kid

L – Lion King

M – Megamind

N – National Lampoon’s Vacation

O – Old School

P – Platoon

Q – Quiz Show

R – Road to Perdition

S – Spaceballs

T – Tombstone

U – The Untouchables

V – Volunteers

W – Wedding Crashers

X – X-Men: First Class

Y – Young Guns

Z – Zodiac

Surprisingly…I thought that”L” was the hardest letter to find one. I’m not totally sold on Lion King as my final answer. Oh, and so many other good movies start with H & D…Harry Potter, Happy Gilmore….Dark Knight Rises.

Zero Hour

Do you know who’s still a great actor? Anthony Edwards. I really enjoyed the first episode of Zero Hour…I hope I have enough committment to follow-through on a series like this. I generally start strong on these, and then fade away.

Well That Was Embarrassing

So, last night, my wife and I were doing “Insanity”…which I would recommend, it’s a good program, and I like the results so far! Again, though, there’s a little bit of Yoga in the program…and I am, uh…not good at yoga. So last night, we were doing some weird pose (which is probably the most basic of poses), and right in front of my wife, I slowly begin tipping, and just crash face first to the ground. Done and done. Congrats honey, you married a klutz.

AWESOME is as AWESOME does

The woman who as a child was the basis for the Beatles song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" is gravely ill. It was thought by many at the time that the psychedelic song from Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band was a paean to LSD because of the initials in the title, but it was actually based on a drawing that John Lennon's young son Julian brought home from school. He told his father the drawing was of Lucy in the sky with diamonds. Lucy Vodden, now living in Surrey just outside of London _ drifted apart after schoolyard days, but they have gotten back in touch as Lennon has tried to help Vodden cope with Lupus, a life-threatening disease.
