Kurt’s Blog: Star Trek…or Star Blech?

Star Trek: The Darkness? Into Darkness? Into Darkness, that’s the one.

Right after work yesterday, I headed over to check out the new Star Trek movie.

Background on me: I didn’t watch much of the TV show…I enjoyed most of the earlier movies…but I really, really liked the first movie of the re-boot…so I had high hopes going into this one.

I need to learn my lesson….Lost…Fringe…Alcatraz…I need to come to the realization that that I will enjoy 80% of a JJ Abrams-produced film/TV show..but I will be completely disappointed in the last 20%.

That’s where I’m at with this Star Trek: Into Darkness.

I thought that the early action scenes were incredible…and the mystery behind the villain’s motives is definitely intriguing….but then it falls apart.

I’m not going to spoil it …but you’ll definitely get the feeling that you’ve seen this movie before. There were scenes where I audilbly groaned…and the Trekkies in front of me nearly lost their minds. They…were…ticked.

Plus, the final battle? I thought it was lacking a huge element…an element that makes Star Trek…ummm….Star Trek.

If you see it this weekend, drop a comment below and let me know what you thought!

Iron Man 3…Star Trek…so far, it’s not a blockbuster summer…it’s a lackluster summer.

The Office Finale

I thought the finale of the Office last night was very well done. It was sweet & touching. I thought they should have done more with Michael Scott’s return though…by the way, what was up with his gray hair?

I wish they wouldn’t have done the trick of jumping a year ahead…I would have liked to have seen Stanley’s retirement party….and there was no reason to fire Kevin.

Guten Prank.

The hour-long retrospective before the finale was great….it made me tear up a few times…and I laughed out loud more times than I could remember. Hearing the behind-the-scenes about The Office was fascinating. They scripted every look…every “uhhh…ummmm”.

Farewell The Office. Thank you for the laughs.

Two Things My 2 1/2 Year Old Son is Totally Into:

1. Special Agent Oso – In 3 simple steps!! (you parents know what I’m throwin’ down).

2. Froot by the Foot – Holy cow, he devours this stuff…and he has some weird Froot by the Foot radar…no matter where I hide the box, he finds it.

Two Things my 16 Month Old Daughter is Totally Into:

1. Chocolate – Priscilla is definitely a chocoholic.

2. Showing Her Beebo – A.k.a. belly button. Oh, and she’ll find yours too.

Mike Wolfe From American Pickers

We went his appearance at the HyVee in Urbandale as well…but the line was a bit too long for me & the kids. I asked Dexter if he wanted to go home, and he said “no, we wait in line to see Mike”…however, I think I lacked the patience. Last night while I was putting him to bed, Dexter looks up at me, and says “Daddy, we don’t see Mike today…next time?” Super sweet.

For fans of American Pickers, just by watching the show, you’d assume Mike is a nice guy…and it’s sort of true…he’s actually even nicer in person. He couldn’t have been more personable & friendly, and just a good, genuine guy. Meeting a celeb that you’re a fan of, and having that celeb exceed your expectations is a great thing!
