Kurt’s Blog: The Big Storms Always Happen During My Favorite Sporting Events

It always seems to happen…

I’ll be fully involved in watching something sports-related…and that’s when Mother Nature says “No sport for you!”

16 minutes left to go in the 3rd period of the Blackhawks-Wild game…Hawks up 2-1…I’m committed. It’s 10:33…even if this game goes overtime…I’m fully invested. As long as it takes.

Then…here comes the storm. I immediately go look at the backyard. I know, just know…that a tree or branch is going to come crashing down. The wind is crazy strong…yet, all the trees stood firm.

Then…boom…power…out.

I go to the front window, and there I see this…

tree

That’s a tree from a neighbor’s house about 2-3 houses down. And…that would be our street. D’oh.

No more Blackhawks for me. Arrgh.  No more power for us….Arrrgh. It’s crazy how silent the house is without the kid’s noise machines going.

Big props to the Mid-American crews though…when I left for work early this morning…they were already out there, and surprisingly chipper for that time of the morning.

My son is going to be so ticked that he slept through (well, slept in our bed) one of his favorite types of trucks being right outside his window for most of the evening.

Glad no one was hurt…and glad the Blackhawks won 2-1 to up 3-2.

AWESOME is as AWESOME does!

REVIEW: ‘It Follows’ is the best American horror film in a decade

In this image released by Brigade Marketing, actress Maika Monroe appears in a scene of It Follows, directed by David Robert Mitchell. “It Follows,” has been arguably the buzziest American film at Cannes next to Bennett Miller’s wrestling drama “Foxcatcher,” which boasts a far more famous cast and a major premiere at the Palais des Festival.
