Join us on Sunday, August 2 for a free concert on the Johnston Commons north of Johnston Public Library! Bring the entire family for an evening of lively music and great entertainment.
Civic Music Association and the Johnston Public Library are pleased to present a free patriotic concert featuring Keith Brion and his New Sousa Band at the Johnston Commons north of Johnston Public Library in Johnston, Iowa on Sunday, August 2nd at 7:00pm.
Keith Brion and his New Sousa Band will perform a free patriotic concert on the Johnston Commons north of Johnston Public Library on Sunday, August 2 at 7:00pm and at Sami Bedell Center for Performing Arts in Spirit Lake on Monday, August 3 at 7:00pm. Iowa soprano Virginia Croskery, who is a veteran of several international tours and national and Broadway performances of Phantom of the Opera, will be singing with the band.
The New Sousa Band performs with the excitement, style, spirit and ensemble sound of John Philip Sousa’s original band. The ensemble has been featured on PBS and BBC and has performed with major national and international orchestras. Their first public performance took place at the July 1987 WASBE Conference at Boston City Hall before a crowd of 10,000 people. Yearly tours throughout the United States have followed, making the band the first national professional concert band to tour extensively since Sousa’s death in 1932.

What: Waukee Christian Church hosts its 3rd Annual Family Fun Fair

When: Sunday, August 2nd from 3-6 p.m.

Who: Special guest performer, Brent Vernon and his puppet Sam, will provide the entertainment beginning at 3 p.m.  Brent is a South Florida-based singer, songwriter, ventriloquist, children’s author & illustrator.

Tell Me More: After the puppet show, around 4 p.m., everyone will gather in Fellowship Hall for Cupcake Wars!  Stay for ice cream, cupcakes, and Old Fashioned Games.

Cupcake Wars: Professional and home cooks are invited to enter their cupcakes in two divisions: Best Decorated and Best Taste.  Entry fee is a dozen cupcakes per division.  Show off your baking skills!  Just call the church at 515-987-4937 to let us know if you are entering.

Why: The event is free.  A Freewill Offering will benefit the Waukee Area Free Clinic.  Come support a healthy Waukee.

Iowa Ortho and Physio Annual Charity Golf Classic

— For a third consecutive year, Iowa Ortho and Physiotherapy Associates are teaming up to put on a golf charity classic to benefit Courage League Sports of Urbandale. Funds generated from the event will help the recreational adaptive sports facility continue to provide programming for children who are not able to go “full speed” due to a disability, illness or emotional challenge.


This year’s tournament will be held Monday, August 3, 2015, at Briarwood Club of Ankeny. A light lunch will be served at noon, followed by the start of the tournament at 1:00 pm.
