Lacona Iowa – The 3rd Annual Lacona Day BBQ will bring world-class barbeque into town from Aug.23 2013 to Aug.24 2013 as championship barbeque teams from all over the state descend on Lacona for prizes, cash and fame.

Locona Day BBQ is sponsored by Sibsa and lacuna celebration Committee and annually attracts more than 1000 attendees. Proceeds from the event are used to support Lacona Celebration committee a nonprofit .

“We want to encourage folks to come out to 3rd annual Lacona Day BBQ and bring a friend,” said Brice W Mitchell of Southern Iowa BBQ Smoker Assoc. “It is one of our community’s greatest events, providing delicious food and lots of other entertainment for the entire family.”

3rd Annual Lacona Day BBQ contest is a backyard contest run as a sanctioned event by Kansas City Barbeque Society. KCBS is the world’s largest organization of barbeque and grilling enthusiasts with over 10,000 members worldwide. KCBS sanctions almost 300 barbeque contests coast-to-coast throughout America, where competitions for barbequed chicken, ribs, pork and brisket are served up and judged by Certified Barbeque Judges.

KCBS is the most respected judging and sanctioning body in America because of its blind judging process that uses a weighted scoring index to ensure a level playing field for all competitors. The organization also trains and commissions Certified Barbeque Judges at classes held across the America. CBJs learn how professionals distinguish great barbeque from average fare based on three important elements: appearance, taste and texture.
