I’m going to start off my saying this has been a tough week. I lost my voice, which to many is a blessing. But when it is your job, it proves to be very difficult. And it is really weird when you feel fine, but have no voice. No sore throat, no fever, nothing. But no voice. Thankfully I have a wonderful doctor out at Lakeside Family Medicine who helped me get back on track.
Cocktail Wars was this week. I did get a chance to stop out but didn’t get to participate as much as I would have liked as I was on vocal rest. But I did get to sample some amazing drinks from local bartenders that just blew my mind. And I can’t say enough about Iowa Distilling Company in Cumming! Just amazing people! Find out more HERE. I bought a few bottles as Christmas gifts and can’t wait to share with my friends!
Last night I had to get the grey removed from my hair (I have a five year old who is aging me quickly!) so I boogied out to see Joey at Moda. She takes care of me like noone else! And then I was off to host a listener viewing party to see Dixie’s Tupperware Party. My friend and i wanted a bite to eat before we went to the show, so we stopped over to Proof.
Now I have been to Proof once before, and that was for BattleDish Des Moines. They made the most amazing drink for that event. I mentioned that to the owner and he said it wasn’t on the menu but he would make it for me. I was in heaven. I am convinced I WILL get that drink added to the menu! Loved it! But for food I wasn’t sure what to go with. My friend got the scallops and loved them. I went for something I never would have ordered before…Here is the description from the menu:
SUMAC/BLACK PEPPER PORK*
thyme-garlic pork / barley-fig salad with lemon & tarragon / bacon braised greens / fig gastrique
Why did I get this? Because it was very similar to the dish they served at the competition which was amazing. Never in my life would have thought I would like braised greens. But this entire dish was over the top delish! This is my somewhere that I must start introducing to my friends. Oh, and the Curried Butternut Squash soup? Heaven. I am dreaming of it right now…
So on to Dixie’s Tupperware Party. Luke did a complete review of the show already so I am going to keep this simple. If you want to laugh out loud for 2 hours–then you need to go to this. My friend is already buying tickets to go again with her husband! This is just fun. Like nothing you will ever see anywhere. A little raunchy at times and adult. But I loved every minute of it!
