Power Balladz took me back to some favorite memories

Last night I cried. I laughed. And I lost my voice from singing my favorite songs of all time…Power Ballads.

Let me explain. This was my music. I had all the cassettes, the records, and now the cds. I have 80’s hair bands that most people have never heard of. If you want to dig into the Power Ballads, then you probably know the basics like Warrant’s ‘Heaven’, Heart’s ‘Alone’ and even ‘Sister Christian’ by Night Ranger. I go deeper. Lillian Axe. Sleaze Beeze. Do you know all the words to Tuff’s ‘I Hate Kissing You Goodbye”? My knowledge of 80’s hair bands is the foundation of my love for music.

Big hair? Yeah, that was me. I enjoyed the demonstration on how to get wild Lita Ford hair in less than :30. It was exactly how I did my hair. Proof? Here is my senior photo. Yeah, I am wearing a Unionbay shirt.

My point? Power Balladz at the Temple Theater was made for me. This was really like watching a really really good cover band at a bar. The only thing is I would have been in front dancing and singing. Instead I played it cool and sang from my chair. But I sang every word. Probably kind of loud too.

The show is playing thru Saturday night and if you are anything like me, you need to go. Seriously. The most fun I’ve had in a long long long time. Today my throat is all scratchy from singing so much. I got home and just had so many memories come flashing back. Bon Jovi was prom 1987. I know Motley Crue was a dance theme at some point in 1989.

Bring your best friends and get ready to have fun. A lot of fun. But don’t be in ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ mode. Be in the mood for the bad boys of rock. Scorpians. Guns N Roses. You know what I mean….you will be schooled in the genius of the POWER BALLAD.
