This is one of my favorite events! It’s going all weekend at Hy-Vee Hall so make a point to stop up.
Last night we had a listener party in the Wine Village. Nothing like enjoy tasty treats from Catering by Cyd and sampling wine! Let’s start with the food that Cyd created! She makes the most amazing little corn fritter things, that I am dreaming of still this morning. And there was a delicious chocolate ganache, AND a brie covered in a bourbon pecan sauce. I could have stuck a straw in that and drank that sauce straight! (Delish over crackers)
I sampled several different Iowa wines in the Wine Village. I tried Wide River Winery first and fell in love with Blushing Testimony. It was so good!
One of my coworkers discovered a booth that made wine slushes. You must sample these! You can use other types of alcohol as well.
I really looked forward to checking out a booth from Allspice. Woz told me about their store in the East Village and I haven’t had the chance to check them out yet. It was heaven. The owner showed me a few things he knew I would like. He showed me an espresso rub that I can’t wait to pick up and use on steak! This is going to be a dangerous place for me!
And then I got to meet a local celebrity that I have a crush on….Hal Davis! He is an incredible designer that was on West End Salvage. (I have all of the episode taped and dreamed of having my master bedroom redone) I’m not going to lie, I was shaking and nervous meeting him. (I’m so embarrased!) But he was so nice and has two rooms for you to check out at the show.
There is so much to see there! I could have spent hours just in the garden area as I need new landscaping for the front of my house! And of course you can take a look at what a dream patio could look like!
Some day I’m going to be able to do all the things I want to do to my house, with the help of the Des Moines Home and Garden Show. Tomorrow I want to go just to see Frank Fritz from American Pickers! And buy more wine.
