They feel they’ve already been burned by shopping by Target. Now some of the people the discount seller is reaching out are worried they might be the target of another ripoff.
The company has sent an email to the 70 million customers who may have had their personal and financial information swiped.
The email offers an apology and free credit monitoring services — and is legit. But more than a few customers have decided not to click on the links imbedded in the email because they think it may be a way to steal even more information out of them.
Even Target has warned that consumers who may have had their financial data compromised may be sent phishing emails and other messages.
Some of those who have got the emails didn’t shop at Target during the November and December period when the data swiping was first thought to have taken place. But when target increased the number of potential victims to 70 million, the company said those affected could have last shopped at a Target store months or even years ago.
