A look back at some of the memorable moments and Hollywood milestones that happened this week.

October 7
1968: The Motion Picture Association of America adopted its film-rating system, ranging from “G” for general audiences to “X” for adult patrons only.
1982: The musical “Cats” opened on Broadway.

October 8
1944: “Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet” made its debut on CBS radio, on the Nelsons’ ninth wedding anniversary.
1980: Singer Bob Marley collapsed during a concert in Pittsburgh. Marley never performed again; he died in 1981.
1990: George Strait was named Entertainer of the Year at the Country Music Association Awards.
2003: Arnold Schwarzenegger was elected governor of California.

October 9
1966: John Lennon met Yoko Ono at an art gallery in London.
1973: Elvis and Priscilla Presley were divorced.

October 10
1935: The first black opera, “Porgy and Bess” by George Gershwin, opened in New York.
1965: The Supremes made their first appearance on “The Ed Sullivan Show.”
1979: “The Rose,” starring Bette Midler, made its premiere in Los Angeles.

October 11
1960: “The Bugs Bunny Show” made its debut on ABC.
1975: “Saturday Night Live” made its debut on NBC.
1991: Actor-comedian Redd Foxx died at the age of 68.

October 12
1962: Little Richard played a gig in Liverpool, with a then-unknown local band called The Beatles opening for him.
1997: Singer John Denver was killed when his experimental plane crashed into Monterey Bay in California.

October 13
1965: The Who recorded “My Generation” in London.
1980: AC/DC’s “Back In Black” album went platinum.
