Toby Keith’s bassist, Carl “Chuck” Goff Jr., was killed in a two-car crash in Oklahoma, the Associated Press reports. He was 54.

Authorities say the crash occurred in rural Cleveland County, about 35 miles south of Oklahoma City.

In a statement, Keith said that he’s “deeply saddened” at the news of Goff’s death and that Goff was a close friend for more than 25 years.
