Maddy was diagnosed with a Medulloblastoma, a type of brain tumor, in Des Moines. Since the hospital did not provide the type of specialized care that Maddy needed, they were directed to the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. Maddy and her family were here for three weeks straight in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) where she underwent surgery to remove her tumor.
Shortly after her surgery, Maddy underwent six weeks of radiation and chemotherapy to help shrink and kill the remaining tumor. Maddy’s subsequent chemotherapy treatments were eventually moved to the hospital near her home, but she still travels to Iowa City every few months for follow-up visits, scans and visits with all her favorite doctors and nurses.
Maddy is now 1 year out of treatment and is doing fabulous. Her last MRI in March showed that she continues to be cancer free! Maddy will be finishing Kindergarten on May 29th, and has been enjoying playing soccer and softball, and being a very energetic, on-the-go 6 year old. Thanks to Star 102.5, Children’s Miracle Network and University of Iowa Children’s Hospital for everything you do for our kids and our families.
