In October 2010, Ryan was at a friend’s house around a campfire when a terrible accident happened. He fell into the fire and over 70% of his body was badly burned. He was life-flighted to Lincoln and was there for 5 ½ weeks. After Lincoln, Ryan was then transferred to the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. Ryan had a 5% chance of survival but thanks to the care of his doctors at the University of Iowa, his surgeries for skin grafts, breathing issues and more, went smoothly.
Ryan was finally able to go home on March 8th – 5 months and 3 days after his accident. He has come a long way since the accident and will have a surgery this July to help give him better mobility in his left arm.
