STAR 102.5’s Donate to Celebrate Blood Drive

Celebrate the season and save lives with STAR 102.5 and Merle Hay Mall on Saturday, December 27 from 10:00am – 3:00pm at Merle Hay Mall located at 5800 Merle Hay Road in Des Moines.

No appointment necessary! All donors will receive a free t-shirt plus a FREE oil change from United Fleet Automotive Service Centers with three convenient locations in Central Iowa.

Why Donate?

  • During the holidays, it’s important to many to pay it forward and celebrate your good health – blood donation is a safe, simple and lifesaving way to give back!
  • Blood donations are especially important during the holiday season and winter months. Busy holiday schedules and poor winter weather conditions can have a major impact on donor turnout and the blood supply.
  • About 1 in 7 people entering a hospital will need blood.
  • One donation makes a difference! One blood donation can save the lives of up to three different hospital patients in our community.
  • Blood donation matters for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment, for premature infants, for trauma and accident victims and for patients undergoing various surgeries.
  • In one hour, donors can help save the lives of three different people
  • Only 38% of the population is eligible to donate blood, and of that only 5% actually donate.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Donors must be at least 16 years of age (a signed parental consent form is required for donors age 16 and 17)
  • Donors must weigh at least 120 pounds
  • Donors should be in general good health
  • Donors should eat a good meal before donating
  • Donors should bring a photo ID or blood donor ID card
