Why Donate?
- During the holidays, it’s important to many to pay it forward and celebrate your good health – blood donation is a safe, simple and lifesaving way to give back!
- Blood donations are especially important during the holiday season and winter months. Busy holiday schedules and poor winter weather conditions can have a major impact on donor turnout and the blood supply.
- About 1 in 7 people entering a hospital will need blood.
- One donation makes a difference! One blood donation can save the lives of up to three different hospital patients in our community.
- Blood donation matters for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment, for premature infants, for trauma and accident victims and for patients undergoing various surgeries.
- In one hour, donors can help save the lives of three different people
- Only 38% of the population is eligible to donate blood, and of that only 5% actually donate.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Donors must be at least 16 years of age (a signed parental consent form is required for donors age 16 and 17)
- Donors must weigh at least 120 pounds
- Donors should be in general good health
- Donors should eat a good meal before donating
- Donors should bring a photo ID or blood donor ID card
