Kurt’s Blog: Do I Need to Read Grasshopper Jungle?

Spiderman & Spidergirl were at Valley West Mall’s Family Fun Night last night…and it was truly AWESOME. My son got the honor of escorting Spiderman through the mall…umm…he’s pretty proud of that. You have to check out the Iowa League of Heroes on Facebook!

Please explain to me Grasshopper Jungle. I hear it’s the new Twilight…is this true? Do I need to read this?

Saw this book at Walmart the other day…well one to Ylvis on marketing.

Miley Cyrus is taking my advice apparently. When her “Bangerz” tour started, she was giving the business to a dancer in the Bill Clinton mask. I told Colleen…”Eh, that’s not shocking enough, that seems too easy. Gimme a George Washington…a Thomas Jefferson…or even a Taft”. Last week, Bill Clinton was replaced with Abraham Lincoln. Now we’re talking! Good job Miley.

The new Godzilla trailer…fantastic.

Beck‘s new album “Morning Phase” came out yesterday…I have such fond memories of

Life is Beautiful Festival - Day 1“Where It’s At?” blaring at the Library (bar) at Drake jam-packed with my buds & beer. Here’s My Top 5 Beck songs

5. Loser

4. Where It’s At

3. Devil’s Haircut

2. New Pollution

Finished the 2nd season of House of Cards. It did get better towards the end, but I felt the last two episodes were very rushed. Too much happened too quickly, and it was unexpected given the deliberate pacing of the first season.

By the way…Beyonce‘s new video is a nearly NSFW striptease…and everyone thinks it’s great. If Miley had done this, people would be losing their minds about how awful it is.

My friend, Comedian Jim Short, posted this picture on his Facebook page…he saw this statue, which was supposed to be Kurt Cobain, but he correctly points out that it’s a bit more Nickelback than Cobain.

Ready to make bath time easier? This soap helped. They love soap now. Heck, I use this…I enjoy smelling like citrus.

What is with our love of the movie “Space Jam“? I really don’t get it. Too many websites that I go to wax nostalgic about this movie. It’s a terrible movie…one that I never found enjoyable. The story was out over the weekend that there was going to be a Space Jam 2…and instead of Michael Jordan, it was going to star Lebron James. People seemed excited about this…blech…let Space Jam go. Let it go…let it go!! There are so many good 90s movies that could get sequels…Space Jam is not one of them.

Too much negativity there…time to cue up Pharrell’s “Happy“. I heart that song.

I mentioned on Monday that I love all things “Let it Go“. I then got this email from Noni, who said “My friends and I just finished our “Let it Go” parody yesterday, which we shot in the midst of NYC’s Polar Vortex.” This is most excellent! Check out the video!

(for some reason, the blog website is being pesky, and not allowing videos to show up on the page, but please do click on their video link, it’s very good).

To end on a sadder note…Hollywood lost a true genius in Harold Ramis. He will forever be

Director Harold Ramis

Egon Spengler in my mind…but look at everything he’s done, and it’s all brilliant.

Top 7 Things Harold Ramis had a hand in…

7. Back to School

6. Groundhog Day

5. Meatballs

4. Stripes

3. Ghostbusters

2. Animal House

1. Caddyshack

By the way…I saw this image on FB a lot yesterday…

ramis

…and I know it’s supposed to be a tribute to Ramis, but I (like many other Ghostbusters fans) actually noted that this is NOT a good way to remember him. That was not a conveyance to the heavens…but in fact a trap. Slimer did not go quietly into the trap…it was assumed that it was very painful. I get that it’s a “tribute”…but the facts don’t add up.

AWESOME is as AWESOME does!

‘Scary Movie’ tops box office, slaying ‘Masters of the Universe’ and adding to low-budget streak

The summer box office is booming — but not because of the usual suspects. After three weeks of indie horror dominance at the box office, the slasher spoof "Scary Movie" topped ticket sales with $55 million over the weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday, easily besting the far-from-mighty "Masters of the Universe."

Carolina trails Vegas in the Stanley Cup Final and has a big decision to make for Game 4

A sequence of events in a Stanley Cup Final that has gotten crazier by the minute has put the Carolina Hurricanes at a crossroads. They blew a two-goal lead and lost Game 1, erased a two-goal deficit and won Game 2, and rallied from down four goals in Game 3, only to lose in double overtime on a fluky bounce.
