Kurt’s Blog: 1998 Kurt Reviews a Book?

Good luck to my wife & all the other runners at Dam-To-Dam tomorrow morning! I will be at the finish line…eating non-stop Farmers Market pastries.

A Book Review…What?

I was such a huge fan of “Angels & Demons”, loved the “Da Vinci Code”…but thought Dan Brown’s “Lost Symbol” was a big let down.

His newest novel “Inferno”, though, is most excellent!

The only downside is trying to get through the book while trying not to picture Tom Hanks’ ridiculously odd haircut as Robert Langdon.

Inferno is chock-full of all sorts of cool history & mystery, but I think I enjoyed it more because I had been to the main settings, Florence & Venice.

Behold…1998 Kurt in Venice

I don’t know if this will be the same for all the other readers of “Inferno”. The reason why “Angels & Demons” worked was because we all sort of an idea of what The Vatican is like…the reason for “Da Vinci Code”‘s success is that we all know what “The Last Supper” looks like. I know people have a vision of Venice…but I wonder if people (who haven’t been here) know much about Florence.

Look at that proud set of hair…sure it’s parted on the side, and it looks way weird…and I do not recall ever owning that shirt…I do admit to the necklaces though (I’m surprised it’s only 1 at that point…and it doesn’t have a shark tooth on it!)

Anyways, Dan Brown’s “Inferno”? Excellent read…and a good adventure.I highly recommend.

(Oh, and now I know all about the poet Dante…go ahead and test me).

Now I’m reading “Louder Than Hell: The Oral History of Heavy Metal”…and 25 pages in, it’s fantastic. We’re finally getting to the bottom of the mystery…”who invented the devil horns salute…and what is the correct way to do it?”

Will Smith Movies

Today “After Earth”, starring Will Smth & his son Jaden opens in theaters. You won’t see me at this one…instead, I’ll be checking out “Now You See Me” this afternoon.

I’d be more inclined to check out “After Earth”, but due to him single-handledly ruining “The Karate Kid”, I’ve banned all things Jaden Smith. I know, I take such big stands.

My Top 8 Will Smith Movies

1. Men in BlackNew York premiere of 'After Earth'

Hooked

Florida Georgia Line, you have hooked me with your infectious melodies…thank you.

I No Longer Despise Lebron James

I realized that really, I have no beef with Lebron James (Lebron is probably so happy that our feud is over, he reads the Blog of AWESOME ALL the time!) Last night as I was watching a bit of the Heat-Pacers game, I realized that he’s just too good to dislike. My hatred immediately went to Dwayne Wade instead…seriously, dude, stop whining about EVERYTHING.

Harrison Barnes

Reminder: Harrison Barnes is at the Urbandale HyVee today from 4-6p to sign autographs! Welcome home!

AWESOME is as AWESOME does!
