Kurt’s Blog: 5 Compliments I’ve Never Told My Wife

I can’t talk about the Packers game…it’s too raw still…it hurts…it just hurts. I’ve never used this phrase before, and I’ve never wanted to…but “Literally…I can’t.”

I need to focus on what’s good…on what’s really good….

I love my wife…she’s awesome. I tell her how much I love her all the time. Lately, I’ve noticed a few traits of hers that I’ve never complimented….which needs to be resolved here 🙂

1. I love her handwriting (an example of this to follow). It’s the bizarre mix of cursive and non-cursive…it’s captivating.

2. She’s incredibly crafty. I mean this as in “she’s good at crafts” (but she’s also the other way crafty too). Jennifer has become hooked on Pinterest….and every day, there seems to be something new in the house. I see all of her work parts downstairs, and even though she tells me what she’s doing, I can’t picture the final result. Then, when I see it completed…it’s incredible. This used to be a white mirror that had seen better days. Some red paint, some chalkboard paint, and something behind it…and now we have one of my favorite things in the house.

She says we can update it with grocery lists, things to do, etc…but I love this just the way it is. I mean, it has her handwriting…and Dexter wrote his name on there too. By the way…that’s a Despicable Me “Purple Minion” in the lower left-hand corner (or a portrait of me…whatever).

3. Her dates with our daughter to Starbucks is the cutest thing. Jennifer gets her Venti 8-pump Caramel Latte…and then gets Priscilla a chocolate milk, with whipped cream, and mocha chips…and they’ll just sit there talking together. My wife asks Priscilla about boys, about school, about fashion…it’s just the cutest.

4. She’s great at paying attention to things that interest me. I know that she doesn’t care at all about fantasy football (except for what she can buy with the $$ I win…okay, sometimes win)…but on Sunday mornings, she’ll ask me about my lineup, and actually have follow-up questions. This was a conversation we had 4 weeks ago:

Jennifer: Who are your running backs today?
Me (surprised): Oh…umm…Jeremy Hill and either Frank Gore or this Rams running back Tre Mason.

Jennifer: You’ve complained about Frank Gore every Sunday…go with the other guy.

Me: Done…decision made.

(Note: Tre Mason outscored Frank Gore 11-5 that week…good call Jennifer, buy a pair of shoes with my winnings as my way of saying “Thank you”).

5. She doesn’t mind my “trend of the moment”…and even encourages them. In August, I didn’t know anything really of Sons of Anarchy…then I watched every episode  in 2 months…now I think I’m Jax. Jennifer didn’t bat an eye when my wardrobe suddenly changed to that of a motorcycle gang member….and then even bought me a SOA belt buckle for Xmas, and sunglasses. (Maybe she just thinks Jax is hot….that could be, but I’ll take it).

BONUS COMPLIMENT: After my sports world fell apart yesterday, Jennifer came down with a Mai Tai…handed it to me, gave me a kiss on the head….and left me to my thoughts.

I love ya sweetheart…

AWESOME is as AWESOME does.
