Kurt’s Blog: A Concert Review (that I didn’t attend)

Pearl Jam @ Wrigley Field

At 8:00 Friday night, I had just put our son to bed…and I sulked my way into the living room and told my wife “I think I hear Pearl Jam’s ‘Release’ right now”. She looked at me, smiled, and said “I don’t know what that means, but I’m sorry”.

I find out Saturday morning, that Pearl Jam opened their concert with “Release” at just about 8:00. I sensed it, ha!

Saturday morning, all I did was read reviews of the Pearl Jam @ Wrigley Field show. A 3 hour rain delay (in the middle of the concert) would only have added to it all.

The only bad thing was that many of us Pearl Jam fans saw the original (non-rain shortened) setlist…and look at the last encore…

Life Wasted….Better Man…Black…Alive…Baba O’Riley…Rockin’ in the Free World…and then Yellow Ledbetter.

KCCI’s Andy Garman and I were FBing…well, lamenting…with each other, and he put it best. Had Pearl Jam been able to do their full encore, it would have ripped the ivy off the walls.

Check this out…Ernie Banks (Mr. Cub)…on-stage with Pearl Jam….at Wrigley Field…singing “Someday We’ll Go All the Way”.

Incredible.

Did I just review a concert that I didn’t even attend? Yes…yes I did.

Monsters U.

Dexter went to his first movie over the weekend…and of course, we did Monsters University. He loved it…and I was happily surprised at how well he did. He sat through the whole movie…the only time we had to get up was, of course, right when the movie started, he looked at me, and said “Daddy, I’m wet”, so we missed the first 2 minutes of the movie…don’t tell him that though.

Question, though, why do they test the patience of kids? There were 5 previews before MU, which was fine…Dexter definitely wants to see “Planes”…and that snowman movie…and the turkey movie…and how tremendous does “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2” look?

But, I ask you…WHY, OH WHY…do you put a 4-minute short film (called “The Blue Umbrella”) before the movie? It tested MY patience…and all the kids’ patience as well. I do NOT care whether a blue umbrella finds the red umbrella…that was just wayyyy too long.

Speaking of “Blue”

On the upcoming “Smurfs 2” soundtrack…apparently, Right Said Fred…yes, that Right Said Fred…remade “I’m Too Sexy” into “I’m Too Smurfy”. Please tell me that you did not do this Right Said Fred…how desperate for $$ are you?

What’s next…C&C Music Factory coming out with “Everybody Smurf Now”…or “Things That Make You Go Smurf?” I have to Google those to make sure that those atrocities haven’t already happened.

Dirty Girl Run

My wife did the Dirty Girl Run over at Sleepy Hollow on Saturday afternoon and kicked some serious butt!

She said it was a great run…but could have done without having to run up the ski hill!

Not Nearly Quite as Great as Ernie Banks w/Pearl Jam

I say that…but I would have been pumped had I been there…but apparenlty, Vanilla Ice hopped on stage with the New Kids on the Block while they were performing in Chicago. Now, if we could just get Perfect Gentlemen & Hammer to get on board with these cameos.

Spinal Tap to Tour?

Spinal Tap, yes, the ficitious band from the 80s that one of the best movies ever is based on…hinted that they might tour in 2014. Yes!

Last Night’s Dexter

Spoiler: Don’t scroll down from this point if you don’t want to read it…

Seriously, Deb, what’s up with that? That came out of nowhere. By the way, my wife is NOT handling the stress of this season well at all. She’s not a fan of Dexter breaking into houses…it’s just too nerve-wracking for her. Especially last night’s episode. Dear Yates…your clock is tickin’…tick tock tick tock. I stole that from Jordan Chase…Season 5.

AWESOME is as AWESOME does!

Taylor Swift and Bad Bunny top Spotify’s first all-time most streamed artists list

It's her, hi! Taylor Swift has topped Spotify's first ever list of the most streamed artists of all time, published Thursday morning. She's followed by Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny. That comes as no surprise: In 2025 the artist born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio was named the streaming giant's most played artist of the year for a fourth time, dethroning Swift.
