Kurt’s Blog: Almost 25 Years Later, I Finally See a Cinematic Classic

Well, it took nearly 25 years, but I finally watched the cinematic classic…”Road House.”

I don’t know how I hadn’t seen it before…I had heard so much about it…I’ve listened to close to 10 podcasts making fun/praising the movie…but I had never seen it.

Then, last week, low & behold, in Netflix’ s “new releases”…there it was…”Road House”.

It was a sign.

roadhouse fight

It shouldn’t have taken me this long to see this masterpiece…everything about this movie I loved. The “80s”ness of it…the cheesy fight scenes…the throat rip…every stereotype a bad guy should have (why wouldn’t you just have a monster truck on-hand).

I have to go back and find out what other movies I’ve missed. As I’m writing this…I’m realizing that I’ve never seen Weird Science…or Amadeus. Quick, to my DeLorean…it’s time to remedy this situation.

The “Peyton” Factor

A story surfaced yesterday about how much more sales Papa John’s has been experiencing this fall…and they’re crediting the “Peyton Factor”. They say because of him being their spokesperson & part owner of several franchises, Peyton Manning has had a direct impact on the success of Papa John’s this fall.

They are wrong.

It’s the garlic butter sauce…we all know this, right? Mmm….sweet ambrosia…sweet live-giving garlic butter. Not to turn into pre-we-all-don’t-like-her Paula Deen…garlic butter, butter, butter, butter…y’all!

I’m Calling You Out Rachael Ray

When my wife comes home for lunch, she usually has it set to Rachael Ray’s “30 Minute Meals”. It’s a fine show, and I generally don’t have an issue with RR at all…but there was a recent episode that had me questioning RR’s integrity.Rachael Ray

It was a tailgating episode….and RR talked about how much she loooovvvess tailgating.

5 minutes into the episode, I call…NONSENSE!

First…she referred to it as a “tailgating festival”. Never before has anyone referred to tailgate as a “tailgating festival”.

Second…she says the point of a tailgate is to go from tailgate to tailgate sampling little bits of everyone’s food. Ummm…no…it’s not a restaurant crawl…you don’t just go to a stranger’s tailgate and eat their food.

Third…she says that while you’re on this magical tour of tailgates…you exchange recipes with each other. Umm…no.

That stuff never happens…unless you’re at a Barefoot Contessa’s tailgate.

By the way…I can’t remember what Rachael Ray was making for the tailgate…but it was way too fancy…and if you added up the ingredient costs…you’d be spening $150 just on one appetizer…but hey, at least it’ll be done in 30 minutes.

Toad the Wet Sprocket

Who didn’t love Toad the Wet Sprocket? One of the best band names ever right off the bat…”Dulcinea” was one of my favorite albums…and the song “Crowing”? Forget about it…easily one of my Top 25 Songs ever.

They (he…was he a band…or just a one man show?…hmm…details) have a new album out “New Constellation”.
