Kurt’s Blog: Always Put Bacon, Chocolate, and Football Together

3 things that are great….bacon….chocolate…and football. Put ’em all together and what do you have? AWESOMEness.

Listen…if you like bacon, chocolate, and football…we will get along just fine. 2 of those things? We can be acquaintances….1 of those things? I’ll probably only wish you a happy birthday on Facebook….none of those things? Well, I’m sorry, but I don’t believe we will be able to maintain our friendship.

For all of us bacon, chocolate, and football lovers, Chocolate Storybook has come up with something perfect before Saturday’s Iowa/Iowa State showdown.

They’ve created some black and gold or red and gold drizzled chocolate-covered bacon in honor of the big game.

“Personally, Steve and I are Hawkeye fans but we’re excited to sit back and see which color of bacon sells out first,” said Meg Shearer, co-owner of Chocolate Storybook.

The specialty bacon will be available to purchase at Chocolate Storybook, 1000 Grand Ave., West Des Moines, only this week. It’s $25 for 6 gourmet pieces. Pre-order your gourmet bacon to match your team colors by emailing Steve@ChocolateStory.com or calling 515.226.9893. Orders can be picked up Thursday, 10 a.m.- 6 p.m., or 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday or Saturday.

This will be a hit any party, tailgate, or even if you’re just watching the game at home. It’ll end the game-long debate….do I want something salty next? Or sweet? Do both…bacon & chocolate. Done & done. I like when decisions are made easily.

AWESOME is as AWESOME does!

‘Scary Movie’ tops box office, slaying ‘Masters of the Universe’ and adding to low-budget streak

The summer box office is booming — but not because of the usual suspects. After three weeks of indie horror dominance at the box office, the slasher spoof "Scary Movie" topped ticket sales with $55 million over the weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday, easily besting the far-from-mighty "Masters of the Universe."

Carolina trails Vegas in the Stanley Cup Final and has a big decision to make for Game 4

A sequence of events in a Stanley Cup Final that has gotten crazier by the minute has put the Carolina Hurricanes at a crossroads. They blew a two-goal lead and lost Game 1, erased a two-goal deficit and won Game 2, and rallied from down four goals in Game 3, only to lose in double overtime on a fluky bounce.
