Kurt’s Blog: Anniversaries, School, and an Unneeded COVID Test?

New segment in the Blog:

I’m just calling it THE WEEK…no, that seems generic, and doesn’t nearly have enough alliteration…

Let’s go with Week of Wonder…Week of Worry? The Seven Day Syllabus? The Seven Day Syllabus? That definitely fits for this week.

It’s going to be a look at the week ahead…with some things I’m looking forward to…and things I’m definitely NOT looking forward to.

Looking Forward To…

My wife and I are celebrating our 13th wedding anniversary on Tuesday. I love you Jennifer…just as much today as I did 13 years ago. Our plans for that day? Well, we’re unsure on whether we’re doing gifts…we’ve thought about going out to dinner…but we haven’t gone out to dinner in nearly 5 months, so why now? Oh, and our daughter has soccer practice that night? Oh, and school starts the next day. Regardless of all that…just knowing this is 13 years down and lifetime to go is enough 🙂

Not Looking Forward To…

School starting on Wednesday. Seriously…this is such a cluster. I give the kids credit…obviously, they aren’t excited about going back to school, but they’re approaching it as a challenge they’re up for. Me? Not so much. I’m full of worry…it’s two days a week, and then every other Monday with the other days being virtual. I’m not the most disciplined person, so keeping the kids on track at home will be my challenge. What will school even look like? No idea. Absolutely none.

Looking Forward To…

Soccer starts up again on Tuesday night for my daughter. She loves it. She lives soccer…and her JUSC team is her group of friends. They’ve seen each other a few times over the past 5 months, but haven’t been able to play soccer for nearly 150 days. They miss it…she misses it…us parents miss it. I’m so excited for her!

Not Looking Forward To…

An unneeded COVID test.

Here’s why I social distance and mask:

  1. Keep family and myself healthy
  2. Really wanted to have college football happen
  3. Umm…that test looks like it succcccckkks!

Only one of those will happen. I’m healthy…feeling great. However, my buddies and I are getting together for a fantasy football draft this weekend, and the host of the draft has asked all of us to get tested to ensure we’re not spreading it to anyone else at the lake house. I get it. I think it’s a great idea…is it $80 I don’t want to spend? Absolutely. Is it a test that I certainly don’t want to take? Absolutely. Does it make sense? Yep. Ugh…but an understandable ugh. Hey…COVID sucks so much.

Looking Forward To

The fantasy football draft. I mean, something normal. Fantastic!

Not Looking Forward To

We’re golfing as part of the draft. I’ve golfed twice in my life…once in 4th grade…and then last year at our draft. I’m not good…and it shows. I did have a really great time last year…but I let the team down and cost us some $$.

Looking Forward To

The HBO MAX documentary about Action Park. The lore of this New Jersey amusement park is incredible…and I’ve been hooked on learning everything about this place for the past few years. Can’t wait for this documentary on Thursday night!

Oh, and did we do a free week trail of HBO MAX just for this? Yep. You know it.

Looking Forward To

I think this is the week that Urbandale will be removing all the storm damage. I’ll miss our branch fort in the front yard.

Here’s to the week ahead!
