Kurt’s Blog: Bring on the 2014 Movies!

I always get excited when I see the upcoming movie list for the new year…and 2014 doesn’t look it’ll disappoint at all.

Of course, I said that at the beginning of 2013 as well…and thought that Iron Man 3 & Star Trek 2 were both very disappointing…and Anchorman 2 was just big, heaping pile of garbage.

Interstellar

Christopher Nolan, Matthew McConaughey, a plot that I can’t figure out yet? I’m sold.

Hercules & The Legend of Hercules

Two Hercules movies? I’ll probably just pick “Hercules”…because it stars The Rock.

Welcome To Yesterday

Time travel…I’m such a sucker for time-travel.

Godzilla

The 1998 Matthew Broderick version never happened…never…happened. Look how incredible this trailer is.

The Lego Movie

This looks absolutely hilarious.

The Edge of Tomorrow

Tom Cruise…this is your final chance. The idea of combining Groundhog Day with aliens? It sounds good on paper…don’t ruin it Tom.

The Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

I was such a fan of the reboot a few years ago…could not be more excited for more Caesar.

Chef

How To Train Your Dragon 2

I’m trying to sell my kids on seeing the first one…but they reluctant to watch anything other than Dora, Planes, and Paw Patrol. I thought the first one was very clever.

22 Jump Street

Channing Tatum has become one of those actors that I’ll watch him in just about anything…and to answer the easy question, no, I have not seen Magic Mike.

Bad Words

This might just be the funniest movie of 2014.

Monuments Men

George Clooney, Matt Damon, WWII…sold.

Captain America: Winter Soldier

Well, it looks like I’ll be streaming the first CA on Netflix this afternoon.

Noah

We all the story of Noah…or do we? Probably we do…the flood thing right? This looks like Gladiator v. Floods.

The Amazing Spiderman 2

I’m going to pass on seeing the first Spiderman…I get it…he’s Spiderman…bring on Rhino!

Maleficent

An Angelina Jolie movie that looks fun? What a concept!

Pompeii

Guardians of the Galaxy

I have no idea who the Guardians of the Galaxy are…but all I saw was “Vin Diesel plays a talking tree”. Done.

X-Men: Days of Future Past

All X-Men/Wolverine movies…I don’t care for…all X-Men prequels? Brilliant! Jennifer Lawrence may be a factor.

Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1

Jennifer Lawrence…may be a factor. NOTE: I despised the final book…hoping the movie makes me change my mind.

300: Rise of an Empire

Dumb & Dumber To

Jim Carrey is back…Jeff Daniels is back…silliness abounds. Huzzah!

AWESOME is as AWESOME does!

‘Scary Movie’ tops box office, slaying ‘Masters of the Universe’ and adding to low-budget streak

The summer box office is booming — but not because of the usual suspects. After three weeks of indie horror dominance at the box office, the slasher spoof "Scary Movie" topped ticket sales with $55 million over the weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday, easily besting the far-from-mighty "Masters of the Universe."

Carolina trails Vegas in the Stanley Cup Final and has a big decision to make for Game 4

A sequence of events in a Stanley Cup Final that has gotten crazier by the minute has put the Carolina Hurricanes at a crossroads. They blew a two-goal lead and lost Game 1, erased a two-goal deficit and won Game 2, and rallied from down four goals in Game 3, only to lose in double overtime on a fluky bounce.
