Last night, at 7:16, I walked into Wells Fargo Arena with my wife saying “This should be a really fun show.”
Last night at 10:45, I walked out of Wells Fargo Arena with my wife yelling “That was incredible. Holy ****”.
Seriously…for serious…Cher & Cyndi Lauper were AWESOME.
Now…be prepared with grainy Iphone pics…better photos will be up at Star1025.com later this morning.
Let’s start with Cyndi Lauper…first off, Colleen and I (and my wife, and Coll’s friend) got to meet Cyndi right after her set…and she is incredibly sweet and funny. Somehow we got on the topic of cleaning out garages…and how the wig she was wearing reminded us of Mereida’s hair from Brave. That photo will be coming soon, I promise (and yes, I will post that everywhere…it’s what I do).
Cyndi is 60 years young…60? That seems impossible. She was all over the stage…in the crowd…jumping around. It was great.
I have to immediately go update my ITunes with a copy of “Money Changes Everything”. Even with “Time After Time”, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”, and “True Colors”…I thought that $$ Changes Everything was the highlight. It had everything.

Other favorite part of the set? After Cyndi had gone into the crowd for a bit…as she was heading back upstage, there was a woman blocking her, who seemed oblivious to the fact that Cyndi Lauper was right behind her, and Cyndi just put her hand on the lady’s back, gave her a gentle push to the side and in her New York accent said “Excuse Ma’am”.
Cyndi sounded great…she was funny…she was engaging. Singing “Time After Time” along with the rest of the 13,000+ fans was great.
Did I mention great enough? Time to get a Thesaurus.
Now…on to Cher…(as I drink a Dr. Pepper this morning in salute to Cher)

I’m a 36-year old male…and within moments of Cher being on stage…I was singing along to “It’s a Woman’s World”
She got you from song 1. Wells Fargo Arena got loud…really loud.
From then on, it was all systems Cher. She was authentically funny…telling fun stories, poking fun at herself, acknowledging how many farewell tours she’s had…and telling us that this will be the last one…because she might be dead by the time the next one rolls around.
What I thought was really cool was the “60s Set”…I saw one episode of “Sonny & Cher” on an old VHS tape…so it was cool to see all the clips from the show that were shown in the montage…leading up to this…
The couple next to me said that she hadn’t done “I Got You Babe” in her earlier farewell tours. It was a nice moment to enjoy a song that everyone knows.
Oh, nothing, just a giant Trojan horse on stage…with Cher sporting a Beyonce-wig.

Then, came the 80s…and the outfit came out.

Then this…
and this…
Back-to-back…that might be up there in one of my favorite concert moments ever. There wasn’t a frown to be found…and everyone was just singing their hearts out. With the video playing in the background as well…it just was AWESOME. My life is better for having seen those two songs performed live.
Both of those songs are still echoing through my tired, tired head this morning.
Cher was everything (and more) that I expected Cher to be…from the singing…the ego (I mean this in a very good way)…to the hair flip…to the mouth thing (that many look-a-likes have mastered)…it was all Cher.
Some other observations:

The woman in front of me took about 200 photos…which is totally fine. I’m always wondering though, why so many of the video screen? It’s like taking a picture of a TV…I’ve never quite understood this at concerts.
I realized that I’ve never seen a Cher movie…and should change that.
The couple a few seats over me nearly conceived a child during the show during “Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves”…holy cow.
There weren’t as many over-the-top fan costumes as I thought there’d be.
I need my own personal hot spot so I can use my phone to send out photos & vids during shows.
AWESOME is as AWESOME does!
