Kurt’s Blog: Drake’s Ballin’ at the Mall!

AWESOME time

Yesterday, I had the honor of being the emcee for the first ever Drake Basketball “Ballin’ in the Mall” at Jordan Creek Town Center. It was an honor to even be asked, and it was such a great time. Hopefully, you had a chance to get out there yesterday and get up close & personal with the Drake Men’s & Women’s Basketball team.

I wish the audio had been better on my phone (they need to invent a better sound recorder app for droids…or maybe I just need to urge US Cellular to move up their arrival of the Iphone)…but the player intros I did actually came off pretty well. I heard from Drake Women’s Head Coach Jenny Baranczyk that the women’s team enjoyed them.

Stuff like, “She can back a mean lemon meringue pie, #11, Liza Heap”….and “A 6’11” center from Denmark, but prefers croissants over danishes, Jacob Jensen”. (Did I borrow from Will Ferrell? Perhaps…but the material was all original).

Somebody please explain to me my kids…they got all excited when they saw Spike…
“Puppy! Puppy! Puppy!” my daughter yells…so my wife gets a photo with Spike…and my daughter seems none too pleased.

It was a great event…thank you to John, Scott, and Aimee for all the hard work, and thank you for inviting me to be part of such a great event. It was great to see Center Court filled with Drake Blue!

Oh side note…they held a “Kid Slam Dunk Contest”…and 11 year old Gianni killed it. No one was expecting the “through the legs” J.R. Rider windmill dunk. It brought both teams to their feet.

The 15 Movies That Make Men Crying

Here was the list of the 15 movies that make men cry…the one that always gets me? Again, for the 7th year in a row…not on the list. (I’ll make note of that the end).

Here was the list:

Sparatacus

Saving Private Ryan

Rudy

The Pride of the Yankees

Marley & Me

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (Seriously? You nerds…I kid…but seriously, men cried at this?)

Rocky

Kramer vs. Kramer

Cinema Paradiso

The Champ (which after Ken played me a clip on YouTube of it…holy cow, absolutely a tear jerker)

Frequency

Field of Dreams (yet, my heart of stone has never shed a tear at this)

Brian’s Song

Bicycle Thieves

I’ve mentioned this before…but the two movies that get me bawlin’?

The Jack Black King Kong remake…seriously, when Kong is being shot at while on the Empire State Building, I lose it.

And of course…I cry everytime…Cool Runnings. Darn you Jamaican bobsledders and your story of determination and perseverance!

Taylor Swift’s New Song

“Sweeter Than Fiction”…it’s girly…it’s bubble-gum pop…of course I like it.

A Week of Pearl Jam

On Fallon this week, it’s a Pearl Jam tribute week. Most excellent! Tonight, Chris Cornell…rumors are he might cover a PJ song. Tremendous.

AWESOME is as AWESOME does!
