Kurt’s Blog: Hey Justin Timberlake…the Midwest Exists

Hey Justin Timberlake…

I just saw you and Jay-Z are doing a summer concert tour…AWESOME. That’d be great. It looks like you’ve scheduled about 10 dates or so…and let’s see…Midwest…umm…oh there’s one…July 22nd…Soldier Field, Chicago. And…let’s see…that’s it? What?

One Midwest tour stop? One? Except for Chicago, there is nothing from Ohio to Nevada. What’s up with that?

You know the Midwest exists right? We buy your music, we could use some extra love. That’s all I’m saying.

By the way…July 19th…Pearl Jam @ Wrigley Field…July 22nd…JT & Jay-Z @ Soldier Field. If there was ever a perfect weekend for concerts for my wife & I, this would be it…and I don’t have tickets to either. (that sound is my heartbreaking).

NOTE: I will not blame JT for this…I’ll put it on Jay-Z.

The Oscars

I thought Seth MacFarlane was exceptional last night. Very funny…one of my favorite jokes was the Von Trapp one before they introduced Christopher Plummer. Such a bad joke…but hilarious.

Also, I loved the Jaws theme playing people off during their speeches. I was hoping to hear it every time.

Also, I particularly enjoyed Anne Hathaway’s dress, ha ha!

The one thing I did NOT like was the presenters of Ted & Mark Wahlberg. It just doesn’t work. Ted is a cartoon/CGI creation, it doesn’t work. Plus, Mark Wahlberg, what was that “It’s a tie…no B.S.” ??????? What? You’re so weird dude. Also, I didn’t think Ted’s jokes were all that funny. I thought Seth’s normal jokes were much better. How did they not cut to Jack Nicholson after Ted’s first joke? We all wanted to see if Jack has any sense of humor.

Note: Seth’s first joke about Tommy Lee Jones was so good…and love that they cut to Tommy Lee Jones, and he actually cracked a smile. He was so miserable at the Golden Globes, it was unsettling. Tommy Lee Jones needs to do more comedy (I do not include “Man of the House” or anything with Meryl Streep to be comedy).

Look at Me Reading Again

Just finished…

“Red: Sammy Hagar” – great “memoirs” of the Red Rocker. Very interesting stuff, and some absolutely mind-blowing stories about life on the road with Van Halen…and just how awful Eddie Van Halen has become. Also, not that we needed this update…but David Lee Roth? Sort of a prima donna jerk. I would definitely recommend this…it was a quick read, and had some great stories.

Currently, I’m reading:

Total Frat Move” – Yep, a book of stories about life in a fraternity. It’s awful, it’s pure debauchery, it’s AWESOME…and both fantastically, and scarily, the stories sound familiar.

Flight
We watched “Flight” this weekend…and it was okay. My wife really liked it. I found it lacking though…maybe I just couldn’t buy Denzel Washington as an alcoholic & coke addict.

The plane crash scene in the beginning is incredible though…sort of don’t ever want to flay again…and I loved John Goodman’s character. I just could have used more regarding the trial…and more Don Cheadle.

I think I just didn’t care about the love/relationship part of the story.

I did see one review that said “Denzel Washington, the way we love him.” Again…addicted to cocaine & alcohol is the way we love Denzel? This is news to me.

AWESOME is as AWESOME does!
