Kurt’s Blog: I Don’t Want Brett Favre Back

This weekend, the Green Bay Packers will retire Brett Favre’s #4…and it’s widely regarded as the Packers & Brett Favre making amends…and welcoming back the quarterback back into the Packer family.

Here’s the thing…

I don’t want him back. You can keep him. He dumped me…and I ain’t taking him back…and no, I don’t even want to stay “Just as friends”.

As any Packer fan was…of course I was a big…nay, HUGE…fan of Favre. He could do no wrong. I was happily blind to all the rumored stories about his wild off-the-field ways (oh, to have Internet back then), I didn’t care that he threw 25+ interceptions…it didn’t matter. He was Brett Favre…he was the definition of AWESOME. He was OUR guy.

Then he retired…came back…retired…came back…retired…came back…(this might have happened a dozen more times) I started to get a little tired of the drama every off-season….but then he had that amazing season in 2007, and everything was good again. Then he retired (again)…and I cried…it seemed like the end. Heck, we on the show even tried to get him a contract to come on the show.

Then he went to the Jets…fine, whatever…I bought that jersey too. However, there were the ever-pressing rumors that really wanted to play for the Vikings. The Vikings? The hated Vikings? The only thing that would be worse would be to play for the Bears.

Oh. (This came out earlier this week)…real nice…jerk.

Why did he want to play for the Vikings? Favre can say all he wants about how he wanted to play for a winner…although, the Vikings were a mid-level team at that point…and it wasn’t until Favre had the incredible comeback season for them that made them a Super Bowl contender.

It wasn’t about winning…it was about trying to stick it to the Packers front office…To stick it to Aaron Rodgers…and in the process…he stuck it to us innocent Packer fans.

From that moment, I was done with Brett Favre. As soon as he put the Vikings jersey on…I was done with him. I found too many Packer fans were too accepting of this…which I found incredibly irritating. Yes, he may have wanted some revenge on the Packers front office, but guess what, we fans were the ones caught in the middle.

Speaking of middle…here’s me…

I took a stand that day…that I’m done with Brett Favre. It hurt…(it really hurt being at his first home game as a Viking (that was a bday present for my father-in-law that went wayyyy wrong for me)…it hurt seeing him playing for a team simply out of spite. My anger levels were through the roof…through…the…very collapsible Metrodome roof.

If you don the Green & Gold…and then turn it in for the Purple & White…I’m done with you. D-O-N-E…and I hope that Clay Matthews will have the chance to feast on your bones.

Even with all the festivities this weekend to celebrate Brett Favre, I could care less…I hope it rains (but not on the fans…just on the podium).

Oh…and Favre is still acting like a jerk.

This happened on Wednesday night…some 7+ years later…Brett Favre still can’t say anything nice about Aaron Rodgers.

Seriously? Guess what Favre…Rodgers’ #12 will be hung right night to yours…hopefully in front of yours. How hard is it to muster up a “He’s a great quarterback…truly a special talent…there’s not a better quarterback out there.” Then maybe shake his hand…end your bitterness…and let Packer Nation really heal.

You’re still that ticked that the Packers drafted your replacement? You’re ridiculous. As history as proven, this was one (if not THE) smartest draft pick in Packer history.

Fellow Packer fans, I get that many of you are looking forward to this weekend…that’s fine…it was a terrible break-up, and we’re getting closure on this. For me though, I was left scorned, and am in no place in my life to forgive & forget. I’m done with this relationship…and rebounded nicely with Aaron Rodgers. I’m in a happy place.
