Kurt’s Blog: I Just Can’t Wait for These 10 Summer Movies

Fast and the Furious 7 opens today…and I can’t wait to see it this afternoon. It marks the beginning of “Summer Blockbuster Season”!

I’ll be up front about this…I have an irrational love & desire for Jurassic Park…and can’t wait …CAN’T WAIT…for Jurassic World. My love for Jurassic Park is at such an all-time high that if I was to be an Iowa Cub, and could choose my batter walk-up music, it might just be John Williams’ theme to Jurassic Park.

I’m not one who watches a YouTube video more than twice….and most of the time, I scan through it. My attention span is all of 14 seconds….however, when any trailers for Jurassic World is released, it captivates me, and I’ll watch them a dozen times.

That being said…here are my Most Anticipated Summer Movies of 2015.

1. Jurassic World

New dinosaurs….bigger theme park…Chris Pratt. Sold…sold…sold!

Please…please….let there be a Jeff Goldblum cameo. No…not a Sam Neill one…only The Goldblum.

How does Jeff Goldblum not have his own reality show yet?

2. Straight Outta Compton

The biopic of the best rap group ever…N.W.A.

As a suburban white kid growing up on the very safe streets of the Northern ‘burbs of Chicago…the lyrics of NWA really struck a chord with me. Okay, that’s not true, but I did think I was a gangsta for a few months while in 7th grade…and 8th grade. Hello Starter jacket. I still listen to NWA…still blare it from the minivan speakers.

3. Inside OutIMG_9538

Pixar’s summer release looks adorable…a-d-o-r-a-b-l-e. I can’t wait to take the kids….whenever we’re at the movies, Dexter seeks this out, he loves the angry guy.

Prediction: One way or another, this movie will cause me to shed a tear. Darn you fatherhood and your emotions!

4. Avengers: Age of Ultron

Take the Avengers….triple everything from the first movie. What’s not to like? There’s rumors not everyone survives? If that’s true, who will it be…and how much will it devastate me? (unless it’s Hawkeye…because, seriously, who cares).

5. San Andreas

Starring National Treasure Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson…and mass destruction. That’s all you need in a movie.

6. Beyond the Brick

A documentary about the fascination/fandom of Legos. Hmm…in a quick YouTube search, it appears that the full movie is already out on YouTube. Interesting.

7. Mad Max: Fury Road

My prediction….no plot…all action…100% fun. This is one of the craziest trailers I have ever seen for a movie….and I feel like I have to shower afterwards.

8. Minions

If I knew for sure Gru was in this, it’d be higher on the list. Just minions though? Hmm…the jury is still out. It’ll definitely be one of our family movie must-sees this summer. I have legitimate interest in finding out how the Minions came to be. I’m a grown man, and yes, I just said that.

9. Pixels

This movie looks like a lot of fun….arcade game characters that come to life and terrorize a city? It sounds stupid…but silly…which equals fun. The clip of PacMan at the end of the trailer makes me laugh. I’m easily impressed.

10. Vacation

This movie might be a lot higher…if the rumors are true…but the rumors are that it’s a National Lampoon Vacation reboot. This time, though, it will follow Rusty recreating the iconic trip to Wally World…this time with his family. Obviously, it will be nowhere as great as the original…but it stars Ed Helms as Rusty…Christina Applegate…when it comes to comedy, those are two names that I trust…so the movie might actually be suitable.

AWESOME is as AWESOME does!

‘Scary Movie’ tops box office, slaying ‘Masters of the Universe’ and adding to low-budget streak

The summer box office is booming — but not because of the usual suspects. After three weeks of indie horror dominance at the box office, the slasher spoof "Scary Movie" topped ticket sales with $55 million over the weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday, easily besting the far-from-mighty "Masters of the Universe."

Carolina trails Vegas in the Stanley Cup Final and has a big decision to make for Game 4

A sequence of events in a Stanley Cup Final that has gotten crazier by the minute has put the Carolina Hurricanes at a crossroads. They blew a two-goal lead and lost Game 1, erased a two-goal deficit and won Game 2, and rallied from down four goals in Game 3, only to lose in double overtime on a fluky bounce.
