People dream…I dream…it’s never anything important…but lately, here’s the dream that I dream every night.
Some dream of winning the lottery…I dream of the Cubs.
The Cubs are in the playoffs…because #wearegood…that’s not a dream. That’s reality….darn right!
Okay, here’s the dream…
We’ve beaten the Pirates in the one-game playoff next Wednesday…and then we swept the Cardinals in the divisional series…because the Cardinals are terrible.
Okay…here we go….we’re leading the series 3-2 against the Dodgers….it’s game 6…Wrigley Field….
The Cubs are trailing 2-1 with 2 out in the ninth….Dexter Fowler is at 2nd base…Anthony Rizzo leads from first….
Wrigley Field is electric…everyone is standing (note: even in my dream, I’m in reality…I couldn’t afford tickets…so I’m at Johnny’s downtown with my friends, my wife, and my kids are there…because why wouldn’t a 5 & 3 1/2 year old be at a bar at 9:45, right?
Alright…
Kris Bryant at the plate…Rizzo at first…Fowler at 2nd…and then it happens…
Bryant lines a double into right center field….Fowler comes around to score…the crowd is going crazy…we’re going crazy at Johnnys…and then…
Rizzo starts heading to third…the crowd noise grows…they wave Rizzo home…
The crowd is in a pandemonium. The throw hits the cut off man…Rizzo…racing to the plate…everyone is jumping…
The throw…the slide….Rizzo beats it by a foot….Rizzo is SAFE! SAFE! The Cubs are going to the World Series.
Wrigley erupts…just absolutely erupts…Johnny’s erupts…beers are thrown high into the sky. Hugs are had. I throw my children up to the rafters (I catch them…don’t worry…I can’t hit, but I’m a damn good fielder…all my softball friends will tell you that).
Just writing this makes me so happy. So darn happy.
First things first…beat the Pirates. Jake Arrieta…I heart you.
Go Cubs Go…GO…CUBS…GO!
