Kurt’s Blog: Oh, the Past 7 Nights Have Been Beautiful Central Iowa Nights? I Wouldn’t Know

Oh, the past week of evenings in Central Iowa have been beautiful, almost-summer-like nights? Oh, have they? I wouldn’t know…and I’m going to put the blame on my wife for this one…she got me hooked on this.

Why haven’t I been out enjoying a beer on the porch enjoying these wonderful late summer/early fall nights…

10…

10 hours..

10 hours is the amount of time just in the past 4 nights that I’ve spent hooked…HOOKED…on these Murder of JonBenet Ramsey specials.

When all this happened 20 years ago, I didn’t follow much of any of it…but my wife finds these specials fascinating, so I begrudgingly sat down to watch some of these with her…and then about 20 minutes in, I was hooked.

So hooked that I’m making up my own hypotheses…so hooked that I almost…ALMOST…watched Dr. Phil.

So hooked that last night, my wife and I were sharing our theories…my thought…Burke did it…the whole pineapple thing convinced me…convinced by pineapples…that’s me.

Next up of things I have absolutely no interest in watching, but my wife will…and I will probably end up getting hooked on…the Amanda Knox flick coming to Netflix.

Soon, winter will be here, and I’ll be saying “Darn it, where are all the nice nights?”…and then I’ll remember the week of 9/18…when I tried to become a Junior Forensic Scientist.

‘Scary Movie’ tops box office, slaying ‘Masters of the Universe’ and adding to low-budget streak

Fresh

The summer box office is booming — but not because of the usual suspects. After three weeks of indie horror dominance at the box office, the slasher spoof "Scary Movie" topped ticket sales with $55 million over the weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday, easily besting the far-from-mighty "Masters of the Universe."

Carolina trails Vegas in the Stanley Cup Final and has a big decision to make for Game 4

Fresh

A sequence of events in a Stanley Cup Final that has gotten crazier by the minute has put the Carolina Hurricanes at a crossroads. They blew a two-goal lead and lost Game 1, erased a two-goal deficit and won Game 2, and rallied from down four goals in Game 3, only to lose in double overtime on a fluky bounce.
