This past week, my family and I headed west to Omaha for an incredible, fun-filled weekend. Over the next few blog posts, I’ll be trying my best to recap everything we did.
As soon as we woke up Saturday morning, the kids had their shoes on, and were ready to hit the World Famous Henry Doorly Zoo.
We had such a great time, and according to my wife’s Fitbit, we walked about 6 miles that day at the Zoo.
We were so excited to see the new African Grasslands exhibit. It really is incredible. The elephants were out exploring…and my daughter was ecstatic (even that might be an understatement) that she finally got to see zebras….and see the zebras we did…4…maybe 5 times?
What I love most about the Grasslands exhibit is that it’s created in such a way that there so many great viewpoints to see the animals. Not sure if it was a bird or something, but the cheetahs were on point and standing at attention. So cool. Now, as cool as the cheetahs and the lions were…my kids may have been distracted by the helicopter behind them.
The aquarium is absolutely fantastic…I was told upon leaving that my son now fears no sharks…just giant eels. Amen son, amen. Plus, my daughter got up close with a stingray.
The highlight for me that day at the Henry Doorly Zoo…watching a bear….in a tree…catching food in his mouth. “Dad, dad, we have to go see the Lions”…”Not now ,family, I’m watching this sun bear for the next 25 minutes”
The Skyfari taking you right over the rhinos, the lions…absolutely fantastic.
We’ll be heading back later this summer to visit Stingray Beach…still was a bit too cold for them to be out, but it gives us just another great reason for a return visit!
As always, the Henry Doorly Zoo has provided us with a lifetime of memories…and I smile as I scroll through the countless pics we have on my phone.
