Oh, the Big Game…
Where to even begin?
Well, it was the first time in 25 years where I didn’t see all the game. I missed the last 9 minutes of the game, which is crazy. We were watching the game live, but then it was time for the kids’ baths & putting them to bed, so I hit record, and did that, and came back to the game. Well, the power outage at the Superdome caused the game to obviously go long, and the DVR cut the recording at the time it was scheduled…which unfortunately for me was with 9:36 remaining in the 4th quarter.
When the recording ended, I went back to live…and they were giving the MVP to Joe Flacco. D’oh.
I immediately had to flip to ESPN to figure out what happened.
On the plus side, being able to fast forward through the power outage was such a nice thing.
It’s not like I missed any good commercials. What a snoozer…
Let’s start with Alicia Keys…
she still might be singing. Sing the song in a normal time, holy cow. The two highlights of her singing:
1) She always points to the sky when she sings…at least once per song. I bet my wife a backrub that she’d do it…and sure enough, she did. I win.
2) When she was “done” singing, but not quite…one Ravens player was seen putting on his helmet, walking off the field, and then he has a look of “wow…she’s still singing”. Seriously, sing the song and let’s move on.
The Commercials
Except for the GoDaddy.com kissing one, which nearly made me vomit (note: Danica Patrick, for someone who always wants to be taken seriously, you’re not doing a good job of staying true to that idea…the paycheck has to be nice to keep doing these, right?), none of the commercials really made me chuckle.
Stevie Wonder as a voodoo shaman? Psy still doing parodies of Gangam Style? It just felt so “i’m already done with this”.
Halftime
I like Beyonce…but could not stand the halftime show. Between her outfit, which although sexy, looked ridiculous…and just the whole “this is a music video” not a performance vibe I got from it, I just was bored and couldn’t figure out what I was watching.
The Destiny’s Child reunion was a total throwaway. How do you not sing “Survivor”? That was like you’re biggest song. Instead, it was 3 married women singing “All the Single Ladies”. So weird. (note: I’m not 100% sure that all 3 are married, but that’s how I saw it, ha).
What was with Beyonce’s constant mugging for the camera? Everything was over-done, and over-planned. Just be spontaneous.
My favorite part of the halftime show had to be after the 2 1/2 song D. Child mini-reunion, is when she thanked Kelly & Michelle…and then pretty much ushered them right off the stage, so she could scream “Halo”. ‘
Oh, and after Independent Women…did they really do a Charlies Angels pose? Did they actually play a clip of Charlie saying “Hello Angels?” Did anyone…ANYONE…remember that that song was from that soundtrack? I’m supposed to remember things like this…but even I totally forgot about that.
I don’t know what I was hoping for…but this wasn’t it.
I’m really not trying to be a fun-hater, but I’m glad that it’s all over.
