Kurt’s Blog: The Fall Tradition of Center Grove Orchard

Where was everyone at this weekend? If you were looking on Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat, you would have noticed one common thing….”@Center Grove Orchard“. It was the place to be this weekend…and the place to be for the next Fall weekends (and weekdays, Mon-Sun 9a-7p)!

My family and I make it an annual tradition to visit Center Grove Orchard at least once per Fall. The kids get excited as soon as we make mention of the thought of going…to be fair, this time around, we didn’t even have to ask…the kids asked us.

We love the slide….my daughter Priscilla was feeling very brave, and for the first time ever, she decided to brave the slide on her own.

Every year that slide gets better and better.

Their giant corn bin? Instant Christmas card material!

Just print those on a card…and, boom, done…well except for addressing them.

For whatever reason this year, maybe I just wasn’t thinking, or maybe I was feeling rebellious and wanted to break the “no shoes in the corn bin” policy, but I wore my shoes…it was a mistake.

shoeEvery year, my wife and I tell each other…let’s do the corn bin last, that way we don’t have corn all over us the entire time….every year, once going through the entrance, my kids make an absolute beeline for the corn bin. They win every year…we’re fine with that πŸ™‚

NEW this year is the CGO Express…the new train that they have which looks tremendous. We wanted to take a ride, but the kids saw their other new attraction, and were immediately distracted.

Take two of the kids’a ll-time favorite things…combines….and slides…put them together…and ladies and gentleman, Center Grove Orchard gives you…THE COMBINE SLIDE!

Do you know much fun something has to be in order to distract kids from riding the train? Combine Slide wins hands-down every time! Nicely done Center Grove Orchard.

Of course, no trip would be complete without a some picking of applesimg_6991 img_6984

The season for U-Pick-‘Em Apples has ended, but still, you can go to their market store and get so many delicious apples & apple treats (more on that in a moment).

We didn’t do pumpkins this time around…mainly because we knew we weren’t going to be able to carry everything (more on that in a moment)…but also because we’re planning a return visit later this Fall.

Oh my gosh…did I forget the “totally awesome and funnest ever pillow jump” (direct quote from my daughter).

Alright…now to something else that I’m deeply passionate about…the food πŸ™‚ For sure, without a doubt, you get a Cider Slushie…or 2 or 3…they are amazing…and the Spicy & Sweet Grilled Cheese…and the Ooey Gooey Grilled Cheese…dynamite. (What, I like to try all grilled cheeses, they are delicious).

Then…the topper…the reason that I knew we wouldn’t have enough hands to carry pumpkins & apples….these….

The ultimate 6 pack…but it goes too soon. These donuts are beyond compare. We bought 4 for the ride home…and another 6 for snacks…that was yesterday…today, they are gone….and I am sad…and going through withdrawal.

Celebrate Fall the most fun way possible…Center Grove Orchard in Cambridge…don’t think it’s too far…because it isn’t…it’s like 5-6 minutes away from Ankeny…you’ll be there before you know it, having an AWESOME time.

‘Scary Movie’ tops box office, slaying ‘Masters of the Universe’ and adding to low-budget streak

The summer box office is booming β€” but not because of the usual suspects. After three weeks of indie horror dominance at the box office, the slasher spoof "Scary Movie" topped ticket sales with $55 million over the weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday, easily besting the far-from-mighty "Masters of the Universe."

Carolina trails Vegas in the Stanley Cup Final and has a big decision to make for Game 4

A sequence of events in a Stanley Cup Final that has gotten crazier by the minute has put the Carolina Hurricanes at a crossroads. They blew a two-goal lead and lost Game 1, erased a two-goal deficit and won Game 2, and rallied from down four goals in Game 3, only to lose in double overtime on a fluky bounce.
