Kurt’s Blog: The Force Awakens has Awakened My Inner Nerd

Star Wars: The Force Awakens….tonight…Science Center of Iowa…10:00 show. I’m there…and I can’t wait.

I thought that once I got to high school, I was done with Star Wars…still loved it, but wouldn’t have ever been spotted in a Star Wars shirt…and then college, I was excited to see the prequels…and then horribly disappointed. I mean…horribly disappointed…3 of the worst movies ever made.

Now…the Force Awakens…and having a 5 year old son….my Star Wars nerd-dom is back in full effect…in full FORCE! I mean, I’m wearing a BB-8 droid shirt as I type this this morning.

Force Awakens gets to go to a new whole world…I’m so excited about this. The prequels had to follow a set story line…Anakin eventually has to become Darth Vader…but here, in this world, everything is new. Who is Finn? Who is Rey? Why’s Chewie’s arm bandaged up?

Where’s Luke?

Who is Kylo Ren?

By the way…Kylo Ren? I could not be more obsessed with him. I use my son as an excuse…but it’s a cover-up. Yes…I would like a Kylo Ren lightsaber as well!

Tomorrow…I will post a review of The Force Awakens…but have no worries, I will post nothing spoiler-ish.

To all my fellow Star Wars nerds…see you at the Science Center tonight!

‘Scary Movie’ tops box office, slaying ‘Masters of the Universe’ and adding to low-budget streak

The summer box office is booming — but not because of the usual suspects. After three weeks of indie horror dominance at the box office, the slasher spoof "Scary Movie" topped ticket sales with $55 million over the weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday, easily besting the far-from-mighty "Masters of the Universe."

Carolina trails Vegas in the Stanley Cup Final and has a big decision to make for Game 4

A sequence of events in a Stanley Cup Final that has gotten crazier by the minute has put the Carolina Hurricanes at a crossroads. They blew a two-goal lead and lost Game 1, erased a two-goal deficit and won Game 2, and rallied from down four goals in Game 3, only to lose in double overtime on a fluky bounce.
