Kurt’s Blog: The Never-Ending Wormhole of Etsy

So yesterday, I posted a few times on Facebook about my wife disappearing into an Etsy wormhole for about an hour…which became 2 hours…then 3 hours…then, well things got fuzzy after that.

Oh Etsy….

Seriously.

It started off with my wife (who was sort of new to Etsy) searching “Frozen”. Our daughter is infatuated with all my wife’s necklaces…she desperately wants her own fun necklace. So…”Frozen necklace” went into the search….and my wife disappeared for an hour. She came back with about 15 options.

Her next question was “How do I sign up for an Etsy account?” Then I said…here’s my username…and password.

It was then that the Etsy Pandora’s Box was opened.

Holy cow.

Within minutes, my email icon lit up….one new email…”Your Etsy Purchase has been Confirmed”….10 minutes passes….another email notification…”Your Etsy purchase been confirmed”. I checked…it was something different.

It snowballed from there…

Within the next hour…”Pearl Jam” was of course searched…and a table was nearly purchased…but wasn’t.

Enrique Iglesias was searched…why? Oh…right. Because I saw a post that Pitbull & Enrique Iglesias were going on tour…that was reason enough for a search. Enrique Iglesias earrings? Not needed.

So much time was spent looking at Etsy last night…from anything to everything.

Why wouldn’t I be interested in a Sean Connery tank-top? Or a Carrie Underwood…well…anything. Any house would be classed up with a Chevy Chase face clock, right? What time is it? Time for funny.

The box has been opened…college funds will be spent (kidding). My wife has a birthday coming up in about a week….and we’re going to the Justin Timberlake concert in July…the perfect gift? An Iphone case that has a picture of Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears hugging from 1998. Either that…or the Iphone case featuring a picture of a young JT and Ryan Gosling from back in the Mousketeers Day.

Listen…I’m not judging. I get sucked into these wormholes all the time. For 2 hours one day, I got sucked into a never-ending vortex of YouTube videos entitled “WWE wrestling injuries”…it was terrible. I learned nothing…but now I’m an expert in this field…which will, sadly, never come in handy.

Oh…email notification…the Dora the Explorer Toddler Bubble Necklace was just shipped!

Okay, stop reading this…go buy yourself something nice from an Etsy shop.

Are you kidding me…a Sylvester Stallone “Cliffhanger” Ipad cover? Brilliant.

AWESOME is as AWESOME does!

‘Scary Movie’ tops box office, slaying ‘Masters of the Universe’ and adding to low-budget streak

The summer box office is booming — but not because of the usual suspects. After three weeks of indie horror dominance at the box office, the slasher spoof "Scary Movie" topped ticket sales with $55 million over the weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday, easily besting the far-from-mighty "Masters of the Universe."

Carolina trails Vegas in the Stanley Cup Final and has a big decision to make for Game 4

A sequence of events in a Stanley Cup Final that has gotten crazier by the minute has put the Carolina Hurricanes at a crossroads. They blew a two-goal lead and lost Game 1, erased a two-goal deficit and won Game 2, and rallied from down four goals in Game 3, only to lose in double overtime on a fluky bounce.
