Kurt’s Blog: The New State Fair Foods Review

So…I’m still a bit stuffed this morning….and savoring every moment of it.

I was lucky enough to be asked back (for the third time) to the Iowa State Fair New Foods Experience…and it was…delicious.

What were my Top 3 new Foods?

Georgie’s Roast With the Most Wrap

I mean, awesome. Look at that…packed full with roast, cheese, rice…great flavor!

The Chief

The Jalapeno Popper Pizza

There’s a sweet chili Thai sauce on here that’s just increds.

My favorite “Value” food at the Fair?

The Cookie Crunch Wonder Bar

You can eat it fast if you want to make sure it doesn’t melt…but I ate it fast because I thought it was delicious.

So much good food coming to the Iowa State Fair this year…and from what I judged yesterday, there’s a bit of a spicy flair in the air. Jalapenos…spicy spices…but not over the top. Nothing that had me lunging for water…but definitely got a little sweat on the chrome dome.

As I look at the list of the other 50+ foods coming to the Fair…of the ones that I didn’t taste, these are the ones that jump right off the page at me.

Oh…before I get to that…I forgot to take a before picture, but the “Bacon-Wrapped Pig Wings” were sooooooooooooooooooooo good.

Here’s my Must-Have List…

Deep-fried Deviled Eggs

Dessert Poutine

Boozy Pecan Caramel Apple

Walt’s Lemonade Creamsicle

Mexi-Strawberry Chocolate Cheesecake Chimi

Monster Cookie Popcorn

Peach Empanadas

Slaughter House Poutine

…you know what? all of them!!!!!

‘Scary Movie’ tops box office, slaying ‘Masters of the Universe’ and adding to low-budget streak

The summer box office is booming — but not because of the usual suspects. After three weeks of indie horror dominance at the box office, the slasher spoof "Scary Movie" topped ticket sales with $55 million over the weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday, easily besting the far-from-mighty "Masters of the Universe."

Carolina trails Vegas in the Stanley Cup Final and has a big decision to make for Game 4

A sequence of events in a Stanley Cup Final that has gotten crazier by the minute has put the Carolina Hurricanes at a crossroads. They blew a two-goal lead and lost Game 1, erased a two-goal deficit and won Game 2, and rallied from down four goals in Game 3, only to lose in double overtime on a fluky bounce.
