My family and I just got back from our awesome weekend in Omaha…and you know me…I like to take pictures and video…so you are warned…there will be photos 🙂
We had an absolute blast! We make it annual summer tradition to make sure we always make a visit to Omaha…there’s just so much to do and enjoy, and you know me, I love to try and do it all.
I always think of a trip to Omaha as an easy 2 hour trip from Des Moines…but now I know, it’s exactly the same length as “Scooby Doo: Where’s My Mummy”, and one episode of “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood”. This is what the kids watched in the back of the minivan, and yes, I now tell time based on the length of kids’ movies/shows. (5 round trips to school to pick up the kids is about the length of “Up”…just in case you wanted to know).
We did so much in Omaha, I’m going to have to break up the Blog into a few different entries…we’ll start with a trip to the Durham Museum.
We had never been before, but will definitely be back…there was so much to see, and so much to learn. As soon as the kids went down the first few stairs and saw the train cars & engine downstairs, I knew we had hit a home run. They went from walking down the stairs, to jumping down the stairs 2 at a time.
The volunteers that they have working at the Durham Museum know their stuff…and are happy to take a picture ——–>
They have so many great exhibits showing the history of Omaha, and we’re definitely going to head back when their new exhibit “Odyssey’s SHIPWRECK: Pirates and Treasures” starts later this month.
Oh, and look, my love of Oreos even had me spot vintage Oreos at their supermarket exhibit…
The Durham Museum itself is just so impressive…the interior of the train station is incredible…and the Green Rivers at the authentic soda fountain are quite fantastic.
So much to do, so much to see..
When the kids leave a museum, and as you’re walking back to the minivan, and they say, “Can we go back there some day?“, you know it’s a winner.
For dinner, we hit up the Amazing Pizza Machine…and did they have fun…let these two pics of my daughter riding the Krazy Kars sum it up…
Great pizza buffet…hundreds of games…the Go-Karts are great, and my son was thrilled that we tall enough to drive his own bumper car (which has been a dream of his since the age of 3).
Another sign the kids had a good time? When we got back to the hotel, they both said they were too tired to go swimming. ?!?!?!? My wife and I were stunned…absolutely stunned.
In the next Blog: An visit to the Laurtizen Gardens and, of course, the Henry Doorly Zoo.
There’s so much to do in Omaha…we had a tremendous weekend, and we barely scratched the surface of all that Omaha has to offer.
