Kurt’s Blog: The Omaha Vacation Spectacular Part 2

When last I blogged, I was telling you about all the fun my family and I had while spending an incredible weekend in Omaha  (Henry Doorly Zoo, Amazing Pizza Machine and more)…well, that was just Day 1.

Let me tell about you Day 2….because guess what…we did even more!

All three Omaha attractions we did on Day 2 were brand new to us…but instantly became family favorites that we will continue to revisit every time we head back to Omaha.

Let’s start with the Wildlife Safari Park. My wife will tell you that this was her highlight of our weekend…she loved our drive through the park…and then our hike up to Bear Canyon & Wolf Canyon.

We were able to get up close to elk…just right outside the door of the minivan….and then a stop at Pelican Island was an instant fav.

Before our hike to see the wolves & bears, the kids loved the Hands-On Corral…and by kids…I also mean me. Hello Goat Selfie!

We hiked the long way to get to the canyons, but that turned out to be a bonus, because we were to see a white (maybe gray) wolf just a few feet away from the fence.

I don’t think we had left the parking lot before Jennifer said “we have to come back and do this again”. Totally agreed!

Our next stop was just down the road….the Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum (SAC Museum). My dad was in the Navy and was stationed at a naval station in Illinois that also was an air base, so the SAC brought back so many fun memories as a kid…and my kids immediately were excited about getting up close with these planes.

Walking in…you immediately walk into the SR-71 Blackbird…nerd alert here, but yes, that was my favorite airplane as a kid…and still is. Getting this pic with Priscilla, and seeing how excited Dexter was seeing it…well, it meant a lot to me.

The kids loved the Science Zone…and then went every direction to try and see every airplane/spacecraft the SAC has. Oh, and the replica mission control set up they have…well, my kids thought that was just the neatest thing.

We explored both hangars…from top to bottom…and had the best time.

Before we headed back home…we made a stop at the Omaha Children’s Museum, and the kids dubbed Jennifer and I “best parents ever”, ha ha. They had an absolute blast.

I’ve asked them what their favorite part of the Children’s Museum was…and both told me, without hesitation, the kids’ garage. From playing at the kids-sized bank to the kids-sized hospital…by the time we got home, they had changed their minds and told us that “everything was their favorite“.

We can’t wait to head back to Omaha later this summer…we’re already looking for the first free weekend. Before you head to Omaha, make sure you download the free Omaha Savings App…it’s free, it’s easy to use…and most importantly it works! You can use it at all your favorite Omaha attractions for discounted admissions, and even discounts at the gift shops!

Download the app…and start planning your Omaha adventure at VisitOmaha.com!
