Kurt’s Blog: The Rocketslide Might Not Be For Adults

Urbandale built a brand new park over at Walker Johnston Park. It started last fall…and 90% of it’s complete (and the kids loooovvve it).

The 10% that’s not complete…the Rocket Slide. Well, that’s what I call it. Here’s what it looks like…

It’s two giant slides built into the hill. My kids have been drooling over this idea ever since they saw it. The snow fence at the top has kept them from heading on down…

On Sunday…for some reason…the snow fence was down. I thought, maybe they’re done? It’s finished? Just need some cosmetic touchups and it’ll be good to go?

We saw other families on the rocket slide…so we made that priority #1 on Sunday.

Here was my son’s first trip down the Rocket Slide…

And now, here is my inaugural trip, from my point of view…complete with bruised tailbone.

Yes…I bruised my tailbone. I asked other parents and they were limping around a bit too…the kids though? No effects at all. Just screams of joy and happiness. I asked my kids 5 times throughout the day…”Does your booty hurt?” Both kids quickly replied…no, let’s go back to the rocket slide.

Conclusion…for kids…the Rocketslide is the greatest thing in the history of things.

For adults…we’ll need some ice.

(by the way, as of this morning, the snow fence was back up at the top, so I don’t think it’s officially open…don’t worry, I’ll let you know)

AWESOME is as AWESOME does!

‘Scary Movie’ tops box office, slaying ‘Masters of the Universe’ and adding to low-budget streak

The summer box office is booming — but not because of the usual suspects. After three weeks of indie horror dominance at the box office, the slasher spoof "Scary Movie" topped ticket sales with $55 million over the weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday, easily besting the far-from-mighty "Masters of the Universe."

Carolina trails Vegas in the Stanley Cup Final and has a big decision to make for Game 4

A sequence of events in a Stanley Cup Final that has gotten crazier by the minute has put the Carolina Hurricanes at a crossroads. They blew a two-goal lead and lost Game 1, erased a two-goal deficit and won Game 2, and rallied from down four goals in Game 3, only to lose in double overtime on a fluky bounce.
