Kurt’s Blog: Turning 35…A Look at 0-35

Alright, I turn 35 today…no biggie…but I thought I’d try this out…starting from 0 and going to 35…a numerical list of things that has happened in my years.

 

0 – # of Cubs World Series appearances…frownie face

1 – Wonderful wife

2 – Wonderful kids

3 – # of Super Bowls I’ve seen the Packers in

4 – # of years spent at Drake…good times, foggy memories.

5 – Times questioned by the cops or security (mostly due to some sort of public intoxication)

6- # of tattoos (and my dad doesn’t really care for any of them.

7- # of times I have seen my beloved Pearl Jam

8- Years I have been balding (although, in fierce denial for 2 1/2 of those years)

9- # of friends from college that I really still talk to (Irey, Gray, Plagman, Ry, EJ, Yamnitz, Sunil, etc.) (They like seeing their names in the Blog)

10- Pearl Jam’s first album…the album I never get tired of listening to.

11- Age when I turned the greatest double-play in Mundelein Little League History. A diving catch to my left while playing 2B, and then a quick throw to first to double-up the runner.

12- Years I’ve had my trusty Toyota Corolla

13- # of years I’ve been able to work with two of my best friends, Ken & Colleen

14- Soon to be the age of my cat Sammy…a great cat.

15- # of Drake Relays I’ve been to without actually seeing a running event (I got tricked in 1996 & 1998) The purpose of Drake Relays is to drink lots…remember little.

16- # of times I’ve probably been to the doctor…all reluctantly.

17- Average # of swears I probably say before noon.(It used to be higher, but you know, kids, haha)

18- Age I had my first beer…thank you Peggys & Library…and Soccer House Party 1996.

19 – Times injured while trying to do the splits while dancing to impress someone at a party/wedding/wherever.

20- Age of my only arrest. (Underage drinking in car…a buddy of mine was driving intoxicated…I was in the passenger seat with about 20 empty beer cans under me…the silliest thing is is that we were actually driving to a dumpster to throw the beer cans away so we wouldn’t be caught drinking by our folks). Ugh. Stupid.

21- The end of being Dan Yamnitz, Tom Kramer, and some other dude from Kearney, Nebraska…oh, the end of the Fake ID era.

22- # of times I have been right at home….# of times I’ve been wrong? 6,403 & counting!

23- Michael Jordan & Ryne Sandberg’s #…truly inspiring.

24- The amount of wings I prefer to eat at one time…if it’s time to eat buffalo wings…I’m going to do it right. 8? 12? Too few. 18? About right, but let’s tack on 6 more just to seal the deal!

25- 25th of August, 2007…married Jennifer.

26 – yards returned for a TD on an interception sophomore year. (My only TD in High School).

27- 30 – This was tougher than I thought…let’s just fast forward

31- # of the great Greg Maddux

32- # of days it takes me grow any semblance of a decent looking beard.

33- # of hours per week I get of sleep.

34- # of Cubs games I’ve been to (probably somewhere in this range).

35- Thanks to my wonderful mom & dad for having me. 35 years…good times!
