Holy cow…what a night…my first daddy/daughter dance with my daughter Priscilla. Note: I will be the only guy she ever takes to a dance. Sorry about that Priscilla, but those are the rules…I’m your only guy in your life 🙂
We had an absolute blast…I was the luckiest guy at the dance. Much props to my wife…Priscilla looked absolutely adorable…and Jennifer did an exceptional job of making sure I matched.
I did learn a few things from our first Daddy/Daughter Dance.
1. It’s not about the dancing.
2. It’s about the snacks.
Yes… I think we danced to 3 songs…but I know we polished off 3 cupcakes, 4 brownies, 3 cookies, 2 cheesecake bites…and two gallons of punch…and we were fine with that.

3. I was shocked “Single Ladies” wasn’t played. It seems totally appropriate for the crowd.
4. Judging by the rush of girls to the dance floor…followed by the groans from all of us dads…”Let it Go” is still a big thing.
5. My daughter will only dance to songs she knows…(although we passed on “Let it Go”…but that was due to the arrival of a new plate of brownies)…however when “I Like to Move It” came on, a cry of “Daddy, we dance like King Julien” was followed with a quick trip to the dance floor.
6. Stretch before-hand. I’m 36…this is always good advice.
7. Dance first…wait 10 minutes, then get in line for photos. The photo line always clears out after 15 minutes…I always forget this.
8. Post-dance dates don’t have to be fancy. At 8pm…I asked Priscilla…do you want to go get a milkshake afterwards…and she said “No Daddy, let’s go to HyVee…we need to buy more punch.”
It was honestly one of the most fun nights I’ve ever been blessed to experience. I heart her so much…when I put her to bed that night. She looked up at me…said “Thanks Daddy”…and gave me a kiss on the top of my head.
Life’s pretty good.
AWESOME is as AWESOME does!
