Kurt’s Blog: What Surprised Me Most at the Oscars

What surprised me the most at the Oscars last night?

That all the actors & actresses were actually affable, out-going, and there didn’t seem to be any sort of Sean Penn-esque fun-hating.

A selfie that celebs were falling overthemselves to get into? Even Angelina Jolie was smiling? By the way, nice job out of Lupita Nyong’o ‘s date for getting himself front & center in the pic! There seemed to be genuine enthusiasm out of all the actors & actresses involved. They actually seemed excited to be there…crazy concept.

Also, what is this? Actors & actresses who seemed to have actually put thought into their acceptance speeches? I thought Matthew McConaughey‘s was excellent, as was Nyongo’s. All of them seemed to have some sort of heart…or entertainment value. Loved Darlene Love belting out her speech. Reminder to self: watch “20 Feet to Stardom”.

Also, thought the pizza bit was very funny…thought Ellen was very funny…I think it helps to have a host who follows these celebs and actually seems interested in them. My favorite part of the pizza bit?

Who is that man sitting next to Camilla Alves? Yep…it’s Matthew McConaughey’s seat-filler. His job…smile, and not to touch Camilla.

Hey John Travolta…what the heck was this?

Her name is Idina Menzel…and yes, it can be hard to pronounce, but what did you attempt to call her? That was terrible. Go back to your botox surgeon, and go inject your face with more plastic. You look like a mannequin…and enough with the hair plugs.

AWESOME is as AWESOME does!

‘Scary Movie’ tops box office, slaying ‘Masters of the Universe’ and adding to low-budget streak

The summer box office is booming — but not because of the usual suspects. After three weeks of indie horror dominance at the box office, the slasher spoof "Scary Movie" topped ticket sales with $55 million over the weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday, easily besting the far-from-mighty "Masters of the Universe."

Carolina trails Vegas in the Stanley Cup Final and has a big decision to make for Game 4

A sequence of events in a Stanley Cup Final that has gotten crazier by the minute has put the Carolina Hurricanes at a crossroads. They blew a two-goal lead and lost Game 1, erased a two-goal deficit and won Game 2, and rallied from down four goals in Game 3, only to lose in double overtime on a fluky bounce.
