The Primary Election is Tuesday, June 4, 2024. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. throughout Iowa.

Primary Election Dates and Deadlines (Some deadlines are new this year):

• Monday, June 3: Last day for in-person absentee voting.
• Tuesday, June 4: Election Day. Polls open 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.  Absentee Ballots by Mail must be received by 8:00 pm.

In Iowa, a Primary Election requires a voter to be registered as a Democrat, Republican, or Libertarian, to vote for party nominees for the General Election in November. You may change your party designation by re-registering at your polling site on Election Day.

You MUST show an I.D. to vote – Precinct election officials are required to ask voters registered in the county to show one of the valid forms of identification so that they can scan it:

• Iowa Driver’s License (not expired more than 90 days)
• Iowa Non-Operator ID (not expired more than 90 days)
• U.S. Passport (not expired)
• U.S. Military ID or Veteran ID (not expired)
• Iowa Voter Identification Card (must be signed)
• Tribal ID Card/Document (must be signed, with photo, not expired)

Do you still have your Absentee Ballot?

NOTE: Your Absentee Ballot MUST be returned by 8 p.m. (the close of polls) on Election Day!

Options:

1. Hand deliver your ballot to your county auditor during business hours or any time up until 8 PM CT on Election Day.
2. You may designate someone to return your ballot under one of the following circumstances:

• • The designee is an immediate family member.
  • The designee is a member of your household.
  • You are disabled and you have designed someone to return your ballot.

Directions and rules for designating someone to return your ballot are included in the official instructions included with your mailed ballot.

If you do not vote your ballot in time for it to be returned via one of the three ways above:

1. Surrender your absentee ballot at your precinct polling place on Election Day and vote a regular ballot.
2. Vote a provisional ballot at the polls on Election Day if you cannot surrender your voted absentee ballot.
3. Note: Voted absentee ballots cannot be delivered to the polling place on election day.
